LED Worklamps

Anyone got any suggestions for LED worklamps? The Hella Matador worklamp I have on the back of my D90 is starting to fall apart.

I've always been worried about the current draw (a "friend", ahem, left it on all night and flattened one of the batteries), and while it's a great lamp, I think a rectangular one would work better as this one is a bit bulky, and, of course, switching to LED would reduce current draw and eliminate the need to carry spare bulbs (though this one has lasted 8 years)!

TIA,
Nick.

Martyn has (or used to have?) some sweet LED work lamps at Adventure Trailers. I bought one when they first got them and it works great!

Here are some offerings from Ridgid, Truck-lite and Grote. All are respected names in industry. A Google search reveals lots of off brand imports from China becoming available. Keep us posted on your selection and impressions. I like the stingey power draws of LED but don't like the harshness of the light on most of the white lights. I would like to have an LED worklight but want to make sure it is on the reasonably warm end of the spectrum.

as AFSOC mentioned, the LED lights do have a harsh drop off feel to them. We use them extensively here in Iraq on MRAPS, HMMWVs, etc... The reason they have such a harsh appearance is due to two factors:

1, as mentioned, the Color tempurature is MUCH cooler, we're talking 10,000-15,000 kelvin, as opposed to 3200 (tungsten) or 5600 (natural light)... and at a narrower spectrum (not having all colors of the spectrum present)

2, Most filiment style lights use a parabolic reflector behind, around, and ahead of the light, allowing a more true "wrap around" effect, as where LED lights only reflect from around and in front of the diode, giving a "flatter" feel.

The current draw is immensly less, and light output extremely brighter, though!

We just installed 4 Vision-X Solstice 1100 LED lights as a perimeter lightning at the rear and the sides of my roof rack. They draw very little power and deliver 900 Lumen.

Scott has the Rigid cubes on the back of the Skunkworks JK; ask him for input.

I'm thinking of getting a pair or two for my JK.

Do you mean the pricing on ebay? I can't find them elsewhere at that price.
