(Julmood) My 2016 Nissan Patrol Y61 (GU), SWB, 4.8L I-6, in the Arabian Wilderness!

While waiting for the wheels to come here by next morning (which their hub holes need to be machined from 106.25 to 110mm first), changed the license plates to a bit more "prestigious" one:elkgrin:, 3 digits and 1 code/letter instead of 5 digits and 1 code/number (some come with 2 codes/letters). Looks a bit cleaner now, I guess, despite it needs to be washed! The number market price might be around 1500-2000 Omani Rials (3896-5194$ US, 5000-6666$ AUD).

That number has been with us from quite a time, and it had some memories from my previous 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8 (used to call it the Japs Conqueror) that's been killed by hitting a turning Nissan Skyline GT-S 1986 at a speed of 170 km/h then shifting to a road kerb and rolling over 9 times (my cousin flew from the 3rd one and I from the 4th off the sunroof:victory:). That Nissan Skyline made me know who rules the roads, and it's Nissan! I'm 100% healthy, although spent 16 days at the hospital, my cousin had only 2 days but had a dislocated shoulder. Very minor injuries considering how insane the accident was back in 2006, although it took me like 2 years to regain my lost memory:Wow1:.

Wheels should reach my city by tomorrow morning, then need to machine the hub holes from 106.5mm to 110mm to fit the patrol

Can't wait to see how these turn out!

Thanks bro! I would love to see you around us on facebook, you are really taking the patrol in some exotic places and you'll be a great addition!
--------

Received the wheels, straight to the lathe workshop to machine the hub holes from 106.25mm to 110mm. Gave them the spare wheel/tyre just in case. And the 35" muddies are standing by in the company's warehouse! Tomorrow should be the transformation.

I got off FB a while ago but perhaps you will convince me to create a separate account just for the jungle shorty

I'll have a look when I get home from work. Thanks for the invite.

You're welcome ;)

Did the lift, but didn't manage to put the tyres and wheels as they closed by the time I finished with its lift kit. Lift kit is Ironman4x4 2" (coils, foamcell pro shocks, steering damper). It feels a bit more than 2" and the shaft is making noise from the connecting part with the trans. Any advises?

Cut the plastic covers off as been advised by some good Aussie guys.

But I managed to transfer the wheels and the tyres to the shop, so I should go there tomorrow morning to complete the mission!

I had the same sensation when I lifted my shorty. Felt like it was lifted a good 4" but your wheel travel will sit with the 2" shock.

I"m curious as to why the Aussie guys said to cut the plastic cover off the shock. Is this specific for the Ironman Foam Cell?

I'm not clear as to what your issue with the shaft and transmission is?

You feel vibration (not intense) but not feeling right and some friction in the connecting part of the shaft into the trans case underneath me. I need some panhards, trailiing arms and some caster correction bushes at least to fix it, and last choice is gear spacer. About the shock it jams it when flexing, as they said.

Good thing is, from the pictures, you sit nice and level. Once the tires are on this thing will look mint!

I'm gonna skip gym to fit them, might skip work as well :victory:

Thanks for the info on the plastic part jamming the shock when it flexes. I would be more worried about the shock being exposed without the plastic cover. I think some 4x4 drivers out flex their rigs for a nice photo. You see how hard I drive my Patrol and have never had an issue with the plastic part jamming the shock. It does, however, come off every once in a while but I always put it back on.

Yes, the panhards and all the extra suspension parts will certainly help. After I put on my front and rear adjustable panhards and superior steering rods my Shorty drove a lot better. Felt more stable. Like you, I have a few upgrades planned, namely: superior adjustable lower control arms, dobinson upper adjustable control arms, dobinson drag links, and dobinson drop box.

Cheers and look forward to seeing the tires and wheels on.

The covers are on the higher end of the shocks, so they would barely get any hits. A cousin also expressed that he had a similar issue with plastic covers on other brands as well when asked him. It took many many months to gather the money, around 3640$ so far for this. Looking forward for more mods and improvements! Things that are earned the hard way have some special taste ;)

------------------
Finally, fitted the wheels+tyres on! It looks a bit more than 2" to me as it's meant for a LWB Y61 (GU). But looks perfect! Only the feel of friction on the shaft from the gearbox end when I left my foot off the throttle at 80+km/h speeds. Doesn't feel heavy at all on road, works nice with the factory HG41 (4.111 ratio). Took off the front mud flaps and cut some of the inner parts of the rear end of the front fenders as well as they rub so badly on full steering angle. Couldn't fit the spare tyre as it hits the rear bumper, gonna figure out something later, mostly cutting the bumper itself and maybe leaving it in a fiberglass workshop to fabricate it around!

Full mods list: (those are meant for Nissan Patrol GU S4+ Wagon 2005+, nothing for a shorty GU).

- Ironman4x4 2" (50mm) coil springs, 0-50kg rating front, 0-200kg rating rear (Part numbers: NISS024B + NISS010C)
- Ironman4x4 foamcell pro shocks (PN: 45091FE + 45094FE)
- Ironman4x4 steering damper (PN: 3501)
- A set of 5 KMC XD Series XD128 Machete, satin black, 17x9, -12mm offset.
- A set of 5 Marshal (Kumho) Road Venture MT KL71 35x12.5R17, actual diameter is 34.8", 33.2kg of weight for each rubber.

First at school, looks stupid with the lift and the factory set of wheels/tyres

Wow, I love the SWB Patrols, those are some nice mods. Salalah, southern Oman is so much different than the north. Next time I visit the Emirates, will have to make a trip all the way to Salalah, the pics sometimes reminds me of parts of Kauai, one of the Hawaiian islands.

When's the best time to visit the Salalah area?

Welcome! Depends on your taste, but I would say late August to early September is the best. I didn't post all the pics yet of last season :)

Damn that looks so, so sweet. I wish I could pair a SWB Y61 to my shorty but there simply are none here in Guatemala. I’ve only seen one and the guy who owns it put a 22RE Yota motor in it

But anyway, congrats brother! Your shorty is looking stellar!

Does the 35” spare fit on the rear door? I don’t know how strong the Y61 rear hatched are but be mindful the weight of the 35 could damage the rear door. That’s why I keep mine on my roof rack now. Plus I like the look of it better
—————

Just be careful with sand or dust getting into that shock. But if others have cut it with no problem, then you gotta trust them. It’s just a matter of personal preference.
