I have owned mine 5 years now & its the most capable but at the same time the most unreliable truck ive ever owned. Iveco Trucks Australia are promising answers but nothing so far, Just the odd PM to selected owners. Possible payouts & Gag Orders ? ??

if your not on facebook my personal pages help explain to problems

I was forced to endure life driving the CDN MILITARY version of one, I will recall it forever as a worst vehicle EVER ! I would hope without the military screwing it up it showed promise

Our Iveco medium duty tiltcabs were a disaster. Lousy small brakes, smokey, gutless cramp cab.
Hinos on the other hand were the most reliable vehicles I've ever driven. Conditions were carrying thousands of pound of goods each day in city traffic. Great brakes, clean and reliable. Ours had Allison trans that never gave up.

I love forums! Until today I was about to buy a 2010 Iveco Daily 4x4 (2010 ex Northumbrian Water with 17K miles and a cherry picker on the back (= scrap) and convert it to an expedition vehicle. However, after reading all of the issues that owners have had I am running away quickly. A Dutch guy who owns an expedition company in the Netherlands summed it up: Iveco call it military quality, but that is only because the military travel in convoys and have the resources to change whatever is required. In addition to this I find the arrogant 'we know best' pricing from N European expedition convertors repugnant. Most new generation owners are going to head for the sun and not the cold, so don't need all the expensive materials all these people are charging. In our houses we change fittings so why not buy cheaper and replace every so many days/hours use?? Summary - I am going to keep my old and trusted 80 Series Landcruiser, that has done 4 African trips and could go on another tomorrow morning, then drive to India knowing I can get spares, afford luxury hotels when available, but in a vehicle that already has a military grade chassis and running gear through the test of time.

If I am wrong then please tell me!

My boss bought four Iveco medium duty trucks despite the driver's and mechanics pleas. The trans went out at less than 50K . The stopping was so bad that we driver's were developing soccer leg on the right leg. We had the power's to be drive one loaded and they came back and said "no problem."Unreal. In contrast our Hino's were indestructible.

Thanks Goingbush. The Iveco Daily 4x4 'appeared' to fill a gap in the market between the Landcuiser and the 7.5 T vehicles, but the evidence is not in their favour. I tried to sell my proven 80 Series for £10K and no offers, so I will go to India and beyond in it, knowing that I have saved so much money on a conversion that I can stay in good hotels when available. I did two months in Morocco, totally wild. I had no issue with a 60 litre water tank and 180 litre fuel capacity. Surely I am not alone in wanting a 'simple' lithium/solar powered vehicle??

There are a few other options in your light truck/forward control.... ;) A 101 Land Rover with a thumping great diesel in it, a small Jap 4x4 truck (Fuso, Canter etc) or an Aussie built OKA... We went with the 101 and I shoe horned a Cummins 6Bt and ZF box into it. It was awesome, and reliable! Unheard of with a Land Rover. Parts are hard or odd tho.... The locally built OKA's are impressive, especially the later Cummins powered units. They command a high price tag though and parts can also be fun (even in Oz, let alone Africa!)... Space was what we were after hence our current 12 tonne Merc build. Certainly not small but comfortable long term living is on the cards for us. :)
