I just wanted to say that your build is inspiring. Thanks for sharing it. I've always wanted to have a similar project, but that will have to wait until the kids are older.

I see now you are using tapatalk.... You do know they are hosting your pics right? They are NOT uploaded to here!!!! so be warned..... this awesome thread will eventually be useless junk cause tapatalk will either stop hosting images or hold them ransom like Photobucket has done. So far in the 3 decades I've been at these forums EVERY pic hosting site has eventually shut down and that ruins thousands of great threads like this one all across the net.

On your KLR carrier.... how do you load bike onto carrier? is it setup to have bike either inside or outside when hauling it down the road?

so the handle bar tucks into a pocket of the door where the window was..... coolio.

what did you use for pocket?

can you make video of your bike rack ....... very interested in copying it if you do not mind. Really do not want to loose rear door egress.

I welded up an aluminum tube, I have welded aluminum three times now, it is not easy!!!

I added enough extra material so I could grind it down to look nice. Then I will glue marine grade carpet to it.

I will take a video of it in action. I am pretty happy with it. I can move the bike inside or out in under a minute!

Suspect so or you would not have made the pocket.... but is the rack strong enough to hold bike on the back during transport? Just curious why you want to put the bike inside sometimes?

The rack is strong enough to hold my Jeep if I could find a way to get it up there. Yes, it is made for transport, I still have some work to do for the security of the bike to the rack. I don’t like to let the weather beat up the bike, she is a 1987 model, those plastics hate the sun. So when the Ambo is not really getting much use, the bike heads inside till the next adventure.

I like how snuggled up to the back the bike is. But am I getting it right. You load the bike by running into inside then putting it onto the rack??
