humvee ready for fun

hey u guys
I wanted to share with u my humvee project.

Truck is real war veteran, she went to gulf and back in 1991 still had the writings on it in Arabic,
She is 1985,
She had been parked in California desert fo who knows how long, half of parts were missing, engine was sealed solid,
No transmission or transfer case,
Body wasn't in good shape, I had to evict few residents.

But in Northern California we don't treat our veterans the way liberals do And this humve Is no different.

Every inch of the truck needed attention,
But we are not afraid of work. ;)

And after months of sourcing parts and knowledge truck is almost done.

Engine came out of 2001 H1 from predator Motorsport who was putting duramax in there, Originally engine was setup for electronic injection pump, I converted to full mechanical pump
with Db2.
12 volt electrical system,
4l80e transmission runs runs with EZ TCU computer.
Manual glow plug heating system using Ford starter solenoid.
Body was lifted half inch using turbo diesel H1 hummer spacers to give room for the turbocharged engine.
Paint job is PPG 2016 Jeep Wrangler Color ( anvil )

I am expecting doors to arrive soon, some interior work is needed, She will be ready to hit the trails in 2 weeks.
This humvee has A1 suspension and light duty springs,
later humvees and H1 hummers have heavy duty suspension that can be hard on the driver and passengers if truck is not fully loaded to its capacity of 5500 lb.
Even though this humvee has light duty springs it still can handle 2500 lb payload, but it's much softer and absorbs all the rocks and bumps During off road conditions
truck weighs only 5200lb
Body is 300 lb , ( talk about being stable and low center of gravity )

Here are some before and after pics ;)

wow, great car.
I admire that you even consider to start with such a project and then in the end it looks great!

Love it. And that's from someone who has spent enough time driving and working on them, that I'd never want to own one...

Looks really good in Anvil!

Throw some rocker guards on there - maybe some fuel cans & holders on the rear rails.
One downside to the humvee is the single tank - dual tanks gave you 43 gallons of fuel.
Doing anything for HVAC?

(Miss my HMCO!)

Thank you very much guys ;)
this humvee definitely is not the most comfortable ride. even with its light duty suspension , she has absolutely no insulation, rocks bouncing off the under body sound like taliban fighters shooting at you, but I guess camping and adventure is not about 100% comfort;)
For some reason I feel like she has a story to tell and it's her nature to be out playing on dirt roads.
She is like Siberian husky in snow, she blends right in when she is covered in dirt and I don't have to worry about dust and stepping on the hood or just being rugged with her.

I met a guy long ago who had this old 1959 Land Rover, all worn out and tired body but it wa so beautiful because it had unwritten story all over that truck,

I sometimes think I made a mistake painting this humvee.

Rocker guards are coming up next;)

Unfortunately it only can take 22 gallons of fuel I think, I will have to keep extra 15 gallons in a cans. She gets about 16+ mpg on 6.5 engine, hell my Tacoma with3.5 gets only 15mpg.

I can't do much about hvac system because she has no insulation, heat comes in naturally lol, but for AC I just have to spend more time in the mountains haha.

Wow! That's a really cool project with a great history. Thank you for posting it up, especially the pictures of it getting used like it supposed to in retirement.

Cheers,
Jorge
