How do you wash your dishes

Hi Guys,

So I'm tired of washing dishes with TOO much water and have been looking at something like this:

How do you wash your camp dishes using minimal water while being able to wash/rinse.

Naturally I'll air dry things or towel dry, but I just want to minimize my water use as I generally use TOO MUCH water washing dishes next to camp...and let's not even talk about the mess/mud.

There is an older thread from last year in this section on washing dishes, and that same item popped up.
I like it, much easier I think than the two tubs and drying rack I use.

Byer of Maine - available at REI...thinking of spending my dividend on it as the last little item I'd like on next trip. Would save a lot of water...could also heat the water to aid in washing

Thanks, Corey - ps: Where did you get your 5lb propane tank adapter for the stove? I need one...

Got it at Fred Meyers in the camping section.
It is a Coleman, and it works fine with the Sear Hillery stove there, and also with my new Camp Chef Denali I just got a month back.

I have an REI dividend sitting here too, I may have to order that dish thing.
Using the tubs I usually have them sitting on the ground for stability, and my knees ache after awhile washing/rinsing.

That item looks like it would work out better.
Plus since it is foldable, it takes up less room than my two tubs and puny RV drying rack.
I have a full size drying rack too from camping many moons ago, but it takes up even more space.
I am trying to cut back on gear I take and get some space back in the rig.

My Baja buddies and I came up with a shower/dish washer combo. I bought a 2-gallon garden sprayer at Home Depot and replaced and lengthened the supplied line with vacuum hose from NAPA. I then took a pipe cutter and shortened the wand to about 5" using an appropriately sized rubber hose and two hose clamps as the connector. Using biodegradable soap and a scrub pad it makes washing dishes a breeze. Shower time is complimented by adding some boiling water from the coffee pot to the sprayer. The extreme atomization of the sprayer really rations the water. We used to use the H20 bags but in that Baja was our usual destination,it sucked way too much water.

Ironically, I came to the same solution. Just got that same folding sink setup from REI in the mail today, for the Land Rover rally this weekend. Looking forward to test it out. I will say this, when I opened it up, it was much bigger than it appeared in the picture, which is great. I can wash my pots in that thing.

I have the Zodi Hotman Extreme for showering with, and I have done the kitchen sprayer mod to it.

Never thought of using it to wash dishes with too, but it would be very simple to do so.

Hmmm... Seems like you're making it too complicated:
-Used paper plates make good kindling.
-Scrape excess food from cookware into trash or give to dog(s).
-Use a wet cloth or paper towel and some Dr. Bronner's to wipe cookware.
-Rinse with minimal water.

We love to cook and never have problems with "wasting" water on dirty dishes.

That's pretty much what we do.

If we are base camping, we use the Exponent kitchen/sink unit.

If we are camping light or a multi-day canoe trip, we use the square pack unit from Seattle Sports.

I highly recomend using Nikki & Scarlet. The dishes are squeaky clean with little to no water use.

Yes they really grin like that! And as to the dish cleaning, I am only half joking.
