Homemade Roofracks.

No welder? Want roof rack? Check this out........

Saw this on utube while browsing around. It may not be the ultimate but sure looks easy and cheap enough to give it a shot if you want/need a roof rack but have no welder/welding skill/welding friend. Obviously you could build/modify one to your particular needs.

As with most things there are a bunch of roof rack builds on utube, lots of ideas for you and your new diy roof rack.

There's a lot of nice work in this thread. I just read thru all 53 pages and I've a question for the group. Where or what is the T track type cross bars called, and purchasable. I'd like to use that on my rack project when I get moving on it.

Thanks

Some people have used the 80/20 slotted aluminum.

I try to take as little with me as possible but there isn't much room in a Wrangler so I made this,

Moguy, what types of things do you put up there?
My army duffle bag with 2 or 3 sleeping bags and a couple light folding chairs. Light weight bulk stuff. I also have a bumper hitch with a reciever welded between my roll bar above my spare for other stuff. When I camp or "overland" out of the Jeep I go light and not for real long periods of time.

I saw that but figured you were referring only to the rack over the spare. I'm good now. Good work thinking outside the box.

Many... many great ideas here. Just picked up a canopy for my 2nd Gen Dodge Ram Short Bed. Will be building an accompanying roof rack and drawer system in the near future. Debating now whether or not to make the rack integral with the canopy. Leaning towards yes so I can have one wiring harness for all the lights and provide some additional support for the canopy. Also thinking about going into the bed rail pockets and going all the way down to the frame for supports, I take after my father when it comes to over-doing things. Build thread to start soon.

Whipped up this lil guy in a couple days for my XJ. I'm about 80% happy with it given I rushed more than I should have. It's made out of gas pipe and 1x1 16ga tubing. Probably weights about 40lbs?
