Sounds a very busy time for you. I am sure you will have a great time. We bumped into Dan in Cooktown many years ago, he has so many excellent ideas and was a joy to meet. August is a great time to tour outback before it gets too hot.

We are planning a quieter year this year. If you are near Kenmore drop on in.

Cheers
Steve

Yep, FNQ is Dan's backyard :)
2 July ago in NT we found it was already hot and mozzies would come out in waves early evening.
We are in Calamvale, only 20 min drive from Kenmore, will PM you my number and catch up some time.
Cheers

.
Brij Kwaimble National Park is a great spot (Lemon Tree Flat) have spent alot of time there over the year.
Take a torch and check out the bat cave on the way.

Thanks Pete for the bat cave lead. Lemon Tree Flat is the plan. Are Macntyre Falls full in April? We will be there over Easter for a week or so.
Cheers

We're swapping our Fuso camper with an Aussie couple for their Land Cruiser Troopie camper and will be traveling for about 5 weeks starting in March in Port Macquarrie. Looks like we should put Brij Kwaimble National Park on our list.

Any other recommendations will be gladly accepted.

Hi Kerry, will be glad and hope to see you at Kwaimble NP. We will be there from 13th-19th Apr.

If you intend to see natural beauty then other places in that region I can think of (although by now you might have already planned your route in details):

1) Starting from Port Macquarrie within 2-3 hrs there is Dorrigo National Park (moving north via Pacific Highway then Waterfalls Way). There are several waterfalls, lookouts and bushwalks.
Links:
Dorrigo NP: http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/Dorrigo-National-Park
Waterfalls Way: http://urunga.com.au/wp-content/uploads/WATERFALLS_FLYER_A4_DL_v6.pdf

2) Torrington State Forest which Steve has mentioned above is about 300km N-W)

3) then Kwaimble National Park is 200km (West): http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au...gclid=CLbYqO22qdECFYSBvQod8yYHZA&gclsrc=aw.ds

4) then Girraween National Park only about 100km north is famous for balancing rocks all over.
https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/girraween/

5) along Pacific Highway is Yurragir NP: http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/Yuraygir-National-Park
All along there are beautiful beaches.

6) Near Gold Coast - Lamington National Park (eastern side): https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/lamington/
And O'Reilly on the western side: https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/lamington/camping.html

7) still moving north: Rainbow Beach, Great Sandy NP & Fraser Island: https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/fraser/
John (whatcharterboat) knows this area like the back of his hand :)

8) 700km west of Fraser is Queensland famous Carnarvon Gorge National Park. Eastern part is famous for bushwalks, lookouts etc.
Western part is more rugged (4WD) with natural scenery. Although both sides are 30km apart by crow flight but the road trip is about 300km.
Eastern side: https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/carnarvon-gorge/
Western side at Mt Moffatt: https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/carnarvon-mount-moffat/

9) Kroombit Tops National Park near Gladstone (Dan might chime in more here) : https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/kroombit-tops/

Many choices and hope this will help you with 5 weeks trip but I am sure others will give you more pointers.
Cheers

Brij,

The falls should have sum water going over at most times.
If you got the time the river junction walk is a great way to take up a day.
Also Pindari Dam at Ashford is worth a look too.

Kerry, if you don't drop in, your name will be mud. Crash in my front yard if you need to. Noosa North Shore and Fraser Island all just up the road. I might even be able to organise a trip down to ATW if you want to have a look around.

Regards John

Will do. Fraser Island is on the list, although I plan to have a more successful trip with the Land Cruiser on the ferry. :) An ATW tour would be very nice.

I've been watching along quietly but yes We (my wife and myself) wish everyone a bright and prosperous New Year.

9) Kroombit Tops National Park near Gladstone (Dan might chime in more here) : https://www.npsr.qld.gov.au/parks/kroombit-tops/

We do Bulburan National Park and free camp at a little private creek overnight then do Krombit Tops National Park the next day. Let us know if we can help in any way. May even be able to organize to meet up and show you the way. Candy may be talked into it (usually doesn't take much) and it would give Brij a reason to come and have a look if his busy schedule allows.

Kerry :- 5 weeks - Your only going to just be getting use to driving on the right side (being the Left Side) of the road. But all in all it is good to see that you are coming to see some of this Great Country of ours.

Dan.

Yes, I agree 5 weeks is too short. I would have preferred 2-3 months but my wife didn't want to be away that long.

Hi Steve

They usually charge for a truck the same as a car with trailer ... So $180 return at present. Pretty steep but if it was free every man and his swag would be trying to get over there. See the link for one way charges for those thinking a return on the ferry over Hervey Bay. Don't know ferry costs via Urangan but the journey to the island is half the fun and how does that compare to the the low tide experience along the beach from Noosa.

http://m.mantarayfraserislandbarge.com.au/pages/bookings-and-fares/index.html

Also the Noosa River ferry is $8 for a car and $11 for a truck each way. Haha...... I seem to remember complaining back when that ferry was $2.

BTW Steve..... Awesome photo from the Kroombit lookout.
