First I'd take off a thousand pounds of weight.
The main change we'd make if we could snap our fingers, but this mostly applies to a trip like ours, is to have the bench/countertop at the same height. We wish we had a full width bed below for the nights where the winds are 40 or 50MPH or there are some insane sideways rain storms. We had to spend a couple weeks sleeping below in the most southern parts of the trip.
Since the truck is so heavy in "trip mode" I wouldn't mind 4.88 gears. At home in weekend setup the current gears are fine.
Otherwise I think we'd keep it pretty much as is. Speaking of which, if we end up having to sell Goose to fund the next leg of the trip, what do you think people would pay?

I can only imagine what your weight is knowing that Im at 7050#. Do you know your weight? Remember travel vehicles are like a garage, the bigger the garage the more stuff you have. Be glad you are not in a Rubicon Gladiator with a payload of 1200lbs.
Sadly this type of vehicle/build rarely receives the true value even though there reliability and capability is well documented. With that said Im sure you are aware you will not be able to replace it with something bigger with the same capabilities as your 80. I recently came to terms with that and added a bigger rig ALONG with our 80 series.

Not looking to go bigger, but some countries we might want to explore it's just easier and cheaper to buy a truck there, enjoy it for the trip and sell it when we leave. Or buy old enough to re-import to home. I think an 80 with the box like a Maltec is the best of all worlds. Nearly as lightweight as a stock 80 and the room to really call it a "home" since we plan to stay on the road for now. Just too expensive for us so we may try to build our own at some point. We'll see!

Fat rigs are always the frustration.....I actually bought a scale just to make me be aware of what I take away and what I add. Not to mention a stop at a Truck Scale after any major change.
As to price I think keeping an eye on the Facebook Overlanding groups (both general and South America) would give you an idea of what someone will pay.
That said I would be sure to offer up here, ih8mud and other places so that the scared average USA person can buy such a capable rig.
Perfect setup for a fly and buy exploration of South America, especially when you consider shipping cost alone for someone to get their rig down there.

Uruguay to California by way of Houston. Goose is back.
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clean the air filter, new fuel filter. We've washed him twice already and waxed once, but I feel like we have many hours of cleaning inside and out to get him back to "normally" clean after the years on the road.

Wow Tim, you have gone a long way with your travels. I still remember you from the times at Rocky point and Gonzaga Bay on your green 4runner and your old gig at the Banks...how time flys!
