Glimpses of Garwhal- a short photo essay.

Got back from a 2 week trip to the Uttrakhand Province in North India, and I thought I'd share a few pictures in this thread.
There's so much to see, but it was always so busy at the clinics that I had few moments to sight-see with camera in hand. I'm hoping to make more casual, recreational trips in the future, maybe include folks on the forum, if people are interested. A few days on Enfields up through the Garwhal mountains, along with some medical volunteering on the side. ..:)
The hill provinces are scenic, peaceful, serene and rich in tradition; distinct from the busy, fast paced urban side of India that most are accustomed to seeing.
Despite the lack of basic resources, and insiduous poverty, people for the most part are very friendly and welcoming.
Pictures are from Mussoorie, Chamba, Rishikesh,Tehri, and Dehra Dun- the State capital located at the Himalayan foothills.

Drove around in a couple of stock Mahindras but they did really well.

Thanks Nate- I'll post a link to the gallery when I'm done processing the photos. A few people shots- there's such a diversity of races it's amazing.

The sheer expanse and extent of the ranges makes you realize why they call it a "sea of mountains".

A memorable trip and well worth the hassle getting there. :)

Link to gallery- I'll add more as I get to them.

The Lumix GF1 with 20mm pancake proved to be a hardy and versatile piece of gear. Held up great to the dust and dirt and it's becoming a lovable iittle package for travel. The 5dm2 stayed put except for a few tripod shots.
