Gen 3 4.9 Diffs

I am looking for some 4.9 diffs for the gen3, what should I be looking for? Is the locker a separate component on the rear diff carrier? It is hard to tell the working condition so assuming pulling them apart after purchase?

Anything else to consider when looking for the diffs?

Cheers.

I finally scored a set of 4.9 diffs, the rear has the hybrid LSD which is cool.
A couple questions for the folks with a tons of knowledge.
1. Should I rip them open and take a peek? Replace any seals and stuff?
2. Are rebuild / seal kits available?
3. I saw YT that folks cut the rear mounting bolts off instead of dropping the gas tank, I did not get the bolts with the diffs, what size bolt works?

Cheers! Happy Montero'ing

Do make sure to take off the emergency brake once you break the bolts loose.
Use a wheel chock on the front to keep it from rolling since you're disabling park when you unbolt the driveshaft to the rear.

A Gen 3 with 4 speed auto had 4.9 gears, a 5 speed has 4.3
The fuel tank is along the right side of the vehicle last I knew, not behind.
I would NOT open the diff to take a look, they do not break.

Cool, thanks! I was watching a YT video that a forum member posted and he talks and shows how the tank gets in the way of a bolt.

Is there some reason you are unable to look under your own vehicle and look at what the task will take. And how do you intend to lower the differential once unbolted?

I used a floor jack and an extra set of hands to help balance it. They are not extremely heavy, but awkward to hold above you.
