Finally regeared my Montero to 4.9.

For those that planning to acquire Montero 2.5 year 2000, be aware that the gear is 4.2.

Meaning when you upgrade to a bigger tires, it really put a strain on your engine and transmission. When I took my truck to Big Bend, I had a bit of scary situation when my truck overheated, this is due to a combination of 4.2 + 33 and a bit of user error (not putting on low gear when climbing).

I would highly recommend holding off on putting bigger tires before you regear.

Now, after regear...let me tell you, it's like driving a new truck!! My acceleration is improved tremendously! Especially from gear 2 to 3 to 4!! What a blast to drive!!

Now move on to the suspension, I got new bushings, Springs, torsion bars and shocks, basically all the suspension upgrades that A.D.D had to offer at the time I had purchased earlier this year.

1.5 lift is what I want and boy....it drives and feel like a cloud. It's amazing!

Here couple pics of the stance and test run at the beach

Great truck! I have paint envy... Same color as my '98 Winter Package but my clear coat is clearly done... You got a nice one. What did you end up forking over for it if you don't mind? My tranny has a metal oil screen. I did change mine out but not sure if it was necessary. WIX makes the package which includes a new gasket and metal screen which fit nicely. Did you use the correct fluid on the tranny? Many say the Mitsubishi ATF is a must in these.

Here is the solenoid I got to fix a similar problem you are (were?) having with the in-dash 4WD indicator lights. Cheap, 15 minute install and fixed the issue:

Also, I sourced some of the outside horizontal driver/passengers window trim pieces out of (yeah, I know..) China as they were less than half of OEM parts and seem well built and fit nicely.

Great build!

Hi! Nice set-up! ...

I noticed you change your skid plate to "PAJERO".
Do you still have the original. I own a 1999 and my OEM skid plate is dented.
I could use a good replacement.

Thank you for sharing your modes in this thread.

What rack are you running?

I think you may have inspired me to keep my Montero!

Monstaliner looks great!
