Garage Flooring Options / Experience

I've been going back and forth with what to do with my garage floor. I like the look of some epoxy coatings, and certain RaceDeck flooring options. The "runway" bay (where the boys seem to like to leave their muddy cleats and clothes) gets a lot of traffic, so I want something durable, yet "finished" looking.

While researching the epoxies I noticed a pretty broad range of options, prices, and project times. One professional quoted $3k (site unseen) for my double bay garage, and told me the process takes about 4 days start-to-finish. Assuming my car gets here this week, I really don't have 4 days to leave it outside for. Not to mention, I don't think there's any way to keep the family out of the garage that long epoxy flake floor Brisban. Other sites I have visited claim a "same day" process. Seems like a pretty big gap, and I assume there is some performance benefit to the elongated application?

On the RD flooring...I like the easy install, and the fact you can pretty much be done in a few hours. No chemicals, no waiting. I'd love to do a checkerboard in either Red / Black, White / Black, or UT Orange / White (she'll never let this one happen), but I'll probably end up with a more subtle Graphite / Black if I opt for the RD.

I realize this isn't specific to the 991, but wanted to stay "in community",

Had those tiles in a garage, if you go that route, get some with enough surface that you can glue them down, because in time, weather, temps will cause contraction-expansion and joints will come apart and pop up.

The floating grate surface type should be required in all men's rooms.

Epoxy has advantages of lasting and looking good, it can be very slick when wet, if you have a grit surface so you don't bust your tail, then it's hard to clean and keep clean.

Garage floor paint is the cheapest, looks good, plan on repainting touchup every 5 years.

A proper job for an epoxy flooring involves the following:
- Profile the existing slab (usually bead blasting)
- Prime and etch the slab
- Apply base coat
- Apply top coat matrix with aggregate
- Grind and polish for levelness and sheen

4 days is about right.

Anything else is just adhered with some chemistry but mostly gravity and wishful thinking

Had my garage floor epoxy coated , it took 1 day for them to fix cracks and spalling and then came back to finish the floor. 2 days start to finish, and 4 days to cure. Turned out great. Went through the winter in Wisconsin with both cars dripping SLOP all winter, just pushed the slop out the door. And used it hard, floor jacks no problem.
Hard to find a lost screw on the floor though!!!

While not all flashy, I just use matte finish acrylic concrete sealer. When done, it just looks like concrete. Spills generally wipe up and don't leave any marks.

Yes, it is boring. Not the flash of color. Strictly functional. I've dropped stuff on it, even taken a few chips out. Unlike epoxy, it doesn't stand out. No worries about scratching it. Doesn't lift. Ages in without showing it. It can stain, so does epoxy. But the stains look natural, not an eyesore.

I think this is the best buy plus you can touch up spots. Epoxy is gorgeous but for a practical easy clean durable finish this is the best buy..... if you want more you NEED 4 days and epoxy.

Another choice is just Porch and Floor paint. Also simple to touch up and definitely inexpensive.

No matter what you do it is ALL about the PREP WORK....
And read the instructions, often the surface and air temperature are critical.
