Fuse box

So I wanted to have power in the back of the CT but also didn't want a bunch of sloppy wires zip tied to the roll cage so I started a project to clean up the wiring and provide for a fused system that was expandable in the future. Here is what I came up with.

Ran welding cable from a circuit breaker in the battery box. Power all from secondary battery. Entered the rear cargo area and hooked into power distribution blocks. This way the compressor has a nice clean feed of 2/0 gauge wire and then off to the "fuse box"

I then used bulkhead glans to create a waterproof in/out to a pelican box.

These connect to a blue sea 12 station fuse box. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360650504.325530.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1360650534.620219.jpg
I also have the relays for the rear work lights in here.

Then out to the devices that need power. This will allow for fused power with each device on its own circuit. Also allows to easily add a circuit.

Since the box is tucked away I wanted to be able to access it easily so waterproof quick disconnects were put in place out side of the box, all hidden behind the box when installed.

I do recommend getting the $2 removal tool ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360650748.067646.jpg

I also am using the Kicker px50.2 iPod amp allows for remote control of iPhone via a face place with big weather resistant glove friendly buttons ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360650814.570467.jpg
And the small amp sits in the pelican case with the iPod connected safe and soundImageUploadedByTapatalk1360650858.860254.jpg

Once Make the connectors in the truck I'll post up the finished project.

Looks nice, but wow! What else do you have back there that you need cable to handle 400amps? The fuse block max is 100A.
You adding a rear winch?

Nothing besides the compressor. I just wanted heavy duty cable that would tolerate the conditions of off roading and never worry about being under powered.

For that I'd have gone with Carol Vu-tron welding cable. It more weather resistant and more resistant to chemicals. I make all my battery cables from it. It's a good bit more expensive, but you can use smaller sizes because of it's design. #2 Vu-tron would support a 200A circuit for that length of run.

Thanks, I did protect it in a plastic housing as it is run under the truck so it should not make any contact with the outside world. I'm trying to figure out what to use for the main power wires to the box in regards to a quick disconnect. Anderson plugs/connecters are looking like my best option but I don't really want to use those. Would like to use something more streamlined and weather resistant.

You can use Tweco welding cable connectors. This is one male and one female.

Wow, damn fine work! I want the same capability, and hope to have a rear winch In the future. Will keep this in mind!

Thanks, my OCD side def helped with this one. Few things I learned: plan for the quick connects early. I put the whole thing in the rig and once it was in the cables weren't long enough to pull it out to lift the lid.
Also, I used Velcro to mount, super industrial stuff rated at some ridiculous amount of strength to secure the fuse box and the amp. This way I didn't have to drill holes in the box. Better than double sided tape as I can take it out to work on it.

I also used mock ups and the amp, fuse box, relays to find the best fit and allow me space to expand. Other than that the real PITA was running all the wires to have them meet at the same place.
