Adventurer
Its come time to part ways with my beloved 100 series. I've owned this truck since 2013 and have absolutely loved every second of it. Its taken my wife and I, and shortly after our whole family on countless adventures. As far north as Meat Cove in Nova Scotia, and all the way down to florida. Its comfortable, capable, and reliable. Its a fantastic camping and hunting truck. It has taken me and the kids all through the north maine woods both during the summer for leisure and the fall to chase grouse with my hunting companion. however a growing family, a growing business, lends me to look at consolidating our fleet and a full size pick up to fit all of our needs.
So heres the specifics.
1998 (REAR DIFF LOCK), 180k miles on the vehicle, only 30-40k on a NEW Toyota bought and Toyota installed engine (more on this later)
Vehicle was bought from the west coast specifically to avoid rust. I have coated it twice a yr with fluid film and rarely driven it on the salted roads in the NE. It is for all intents and purposes rust free, which is alot to say for a 1998. The frame is as solid as it comes, absolutely NO rot anywhere.
Exterior:
Interior:
Great condition, obviously some wear and tear. Worst of it being the sticking has come apart in a seam on the drivers seat but easily repairable. All the rest of the leather and carpet and trim are in very good nick, especially considering its age. the truck cleans up very nicely. I custom made the back storage units, and they are solid as they come.
Suspension:
OME 2.5-3" lift and HD suspension and front diff drop kit, professionally installed by SLEE off-road prior to me taking delivery of the truck (bought it from CO)
Tires:
285/75/16 Duratracs. I would say about 60% usable tread left. Easily 30k miles left before needing replacement. Spare has never touched the ground.
Engine:
The engine was replaced at ~140k miles. I got into a bad situation where i had the truck at a very steep decline, and did not realized i starved the engine of oil until it was too late. I had the entire engine replaced with a factory long block, installed by a Toyota dealership with an extended warranty. This cost me in total over $8k but I'm not one to take short cuts. Its a shame because these motors are good for $300k easy, but the way i look at it was it is just an investment in peace of mind and resale. Obviously the water pump and timing belt were replaced at the same time. I have every receipt for this work
Notable maintenance items:
Other than the engine above, the hubs were serviced by SLEE off road when i bought the truck at 128k miles, i recently replaced the exhaust (cat back) all brakes (within the yr), viscous fan clutch, and brake booster motor/pump and accumulator (not cheap). I am a maniac with maintennce and have a full garage with lift (just look at my tacoma FS thread here to give you an idea: https://www.expeditionportal.com/fo...nus-tires-original-owner.208985/#post-2678718 . I fully inspect the truck with every oil change. The only item that is probably due that has not been addressed is the header to muffler portion of the exhaust. it is original and has devloped a few pin holes. Nothing that is more than just barely notible under certain load/throttle positions. It was going to be something i tackled over the winter.
Other accesories:
The pictures below are just what i have available on my phone. I am traveling at the moment and will get full detailed pics in a week or so. I have nothing to hide on this truck. We can put it up on the lift for you to fully inspect in person if interested. Everything works as it should. I would drive this truck around the world tomorrow without hesitation and nothing else needed.
I have papers and receipts for all major work and components.
I had a build thread going for awhile but it hasn't been updated in years. Too busy adventuring! note the Dual Tank is no longer on the truck. I just didn't really have the need for it.

Exterior:
- TJM front Bumper with 9k super winch and syn rope, professionally LINE Xed
- Slee full skid plate system, installed by SLEE
- Bump it off road sliders and rear bumper - just recently completly taken off an re powder coated.
- The truck was recently professionally painted. The OEM paint was in good condition, but i had a few spots where the clear coat started to fail. being the preventative maniac i am, rather than fix it spot by spot, knowing i had a 21yr old clear coat on the truck, i painted the entire truck. all exterior items were removed, and at this same time i had the bumpers, sliders re coated (since taking everything off is the real battle anyways).
- Rear tire.jack carrier, Dual Jerry can holder, Yakima Spare time Bike Rack, ARB awning

Other accesories:
- CB Radio
- Hot water system with quick connect ports on the front bumper (after tinkering with the system a bit to get it working how I want it, this is hands down the greatest asset to ANY family adventure).
- ARB Awning
- Yakima Bike Rack

My 1998 100 Series Build Thread
Feels about the same but gas mileage is up a good bit. Which is odd bc every car I've had gas mileage has gotten better with age....although I may have gone past the tipping point
