Adventurer
After another few years, adventures and miles, I'm back to looking at replacing the LX with something a bit newer.
Asking $8000. There are a few issues that need addressing but a lot of money in other parts/maintenance so I believe this is a fair price. Probably have at least in the mid 20's into the vehicle. Local sale on the front range of Colorado. Highly prefer to meet at your local bank for the $ transfer or bank check. Would be awesome if you had an account with Premier Members or Community Banks of Colorado.
Runs great, always starts and gets me home, 14-15mpg. Revs on the highway are about 2800 for 65mph due to the lower gearing, but its really nice on the trails. Dual battery system has saved me a number of times and having a fridge is a game changer.
Location:
Vehicle is currently in Estes Park, but I live/work in Crested Butte. I make the trip back and forth often so could show the vehicle in CB, Estes Park, Denver, Boulder, Broomfield or anywhere in between if your schedule is a bit flexible. Happy to set up a phone call to answer questions as well.
Basic Info:
[*]1997 Model Year
[*]255,000 miles.
[*]2 Lexus Key Fobs, 1 actual Lexus key, 1 copy.
[*](5) 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers 30% tread OR Yokohama Geolander I/T snow tires, 50% tread, whichever you want. Winter tires on Cruiser rims, TG's on LX rims.
[*]Runs well, no check engine codes. Not one mechanical issue in 6 months in South America or in the 2 years since.
[*]Burns very little/no oil ( I run 5w-40 Shell T6 Synthetic). Leaks a drop now and then from rear to get some oil on the underside, but not drip onto the driveway, as far as I have noticed.
[*]After a 6 month South America trip, I am very familiar with it, and know quite well what works, what doesn't, etc. This is why my list is quite comprehensive, especially in the issues section. If you've got questions on some area I've not covered, just shoot me a PM. I went over 24k miles on this trip on some crazy washboard roads and I always got where I needed to.
Things you would probably want to replace/target. I feel like the price is adjusted for these issues.
[*]Some gear/bearing somewhere is making noise, again. I had an initial issue with the first 4.88 front diff gears after about 20k and had the front totally replaced with new parts. Noise is the same (slight whine from the front) but I've not pulled the front driveshaft to confirm. Been making the noise for the last 4k miles or so.
[*]Put a new windshield in (2 stars were sealed so haven't spread but a new windshield would be good. Drivable as is right now).
[*]Replace the power steering pump as its got a good leak going.
[*]Get some new tires.
Interior
[*]Tan trim.
[*]Hole/tear in leather on drivers seat. Some cracks elsewhere. Front seat has seen wear consistent with 255k miles and 21 years.
[*]Homemade rear drawer system. Locking latches.
[*]Carpet has a stain on the passenger rear side where a spray bottle of bleach leaked a bit.
[*]"D" Light is burnt out.
[*]No 3rd row seats.
[*]Visors don't droop
Exterior
[*]Gold/grey paint
[*]Stand alone black front mud flaps, for use with sliders.
[*]Windshield has two stars on it, but does not obstruct vision.
[*]Wind hood fairing has a broken clip on the passenger side.
[*]Passengers side headlight silvering/chrome on the inside has rusted.
[*]Drivers side running board is dented...I may just pull the off before selling depending on time.
[*]Roof rack was removed and painted over, holes plugged. Starting to slightly rust on one of them. See pics.
[*]A few scratches here and there but overall in pretty decent shape paint-wise.
Suspension & Drivetrain
[*]OME 850/863 Heavy Springs. Sits level with the gear and bumpers, etc.
[*]Slee rear spring spacers, not installed.
[*]Fox Shox 2.0 Remote Reservoir Stem Top 10" travel shocks. Fronts resealed/oil changed within the last year, rears had a partial reseal a few years ago.
[*]OME Steering stabilizer.
[*]Man A Fre frame side control arm drop brackets, 2"
[*]Toyota control arm bushings.
[*]Extended and sleeved rear sway bar links.
[*]OEM Elockers
[*]Nitro/Sierra 4.88 Gears. All new parts except rear carrier bearings due to mis-shipment by vendor to installer. Front is now on the second set of 4.88's due to bearing wear from some install issue. See above note on issues to target; suspect the front diff bearings are going out again and will need some TLC
Mods
[*] (2) Sears DHP AGM batteries with Blue Sea dual battery system, slee washer bottle relocator and OEM battery tray. In cab combine/separate switch. Starting battery is a bit old but still works just fine.
[*]50 W solar panel charge controller, wired through blue sea aux fuse block.
[*]Aux power + cigarette plug installed in center console, wired off aux battery (unswitched).
[*]ARB Front winch bumper. Slee aluminum offset hawse fairlead.
[*]LED lights to replace turn signal lights in the ARB bumper.
[*]LED spot lights mounted on light tabs. Both use Toyota Switch on the dash.
[*]Rear homebrew double swingout. Overland geared, not designed/built for heavy duty rock crawling. Heavy duty ball bearing spindles from 4x4labs and destaco latches, with spring pins to keep swingouts open or closed. For a home made project I think it came out well, but if you are a good fabricator or welder some of the construction may make you cringe. A little rust but can be painted over again. Size wise would hold a 315 tire and 2 gas cans or 3 water cans (scepter style).
[*]Slee smaller transfer case skid plate.
[*]Black Hub fan clutch with 10k oil.
[*]Extended front and rear differential breathers.
[*]Bright LED dome light.
[*]FJ60 front hood prop as the gas struts are shot.
[*]CDL switch
