Hey guys, sorry for the half ass post - just trying to help a friend get some additional exposure for the sale of his G Wagon. He’s not on the forums, and not a hardcore car guy.

88k miles. He’s the original/only owner. I don’t claim to know the truck well, but I rode in it in December and it seems solid/no issues. Everything works...even the rear seat heater! He has the service records, and I believe it needs tires. He has more pictures than what are on the AutoTrader link (below), including undercarriage pics. He recently had it up on a lift and told me no leaks and very minimal to no corrosion. Garage kept in downtown Chicago. Asking $37.9k.

Thanks, I thought so too! Seems like it’s tough to find a screaming deal on G Wagon, but I think his price is fair based on condition, service records, 88k miles, and one owner. And it’s bone stock.

I bought a G-wagen new in 2002. My wife gently drove it to 90,000 miles and had all the services down over a ten year stretch. We did have problems with it. Water pump failed. Window lift mechanisms (wire cables) would fail and leave the windows open. Lastly, transmission completely failed with a resultant bill of $6,800 to fix.

Indeed, the cost of maintenance and upkeep on these rigs is well documented. Not cheap.

Anybody wanting a luxury level vehicle needs the income to keep it going. Range Rovers were always the worst (before they became cars) followed by anything BMW. I'd rank the NAS Gwagens pretty good overall but only in comparison to other upper end 4x4's. The TLC being the always obvious winner when it comes to being practical, although they aren't my taste. The G is one ************ capable and ultra tough truck.

Rare to see an M113 V8 with a water pump issue.
Window regulators are a known issue, and there's an update for them.
The 722.6 5spd is incredibly robust; a complete failure is VERY rare. Sorry to hear of your issues, but only 1 of the 3 are common.

These were the only problems we had during our ownership. Expensive to repair and keep serviced. My wife loved it.

I too am shocked to hear of a 5spd trans failing, especially at 90K. I have seen quite a few 200K+ G500s, and a few G55s nearing the mark, pass through my family's euro car repair shops on the original drivetrains--trans included. I wouldn't trust the 7 speeds any farther than I could throw them, but the 5spd Benz trans is just about Europe's 4L80.

722.6 5spd > 722.9 7spd (started in 2007 G500 I believe)!
