Finally a real 12v air conditioner? - Indel Sleeping Well Cube

Thought process currently. I've got a 7k wall mount unit in the front of the camper, but its 120volt.

I was wondering if I could cobble up a 12v system using a car evaporator on the outside, and a car condenser/blower on the inside. The evaporator could be behind a couple of alum panels to provide some protection during travel.

With 120v units, you need a pure sine inverter and a lot of battery power. To run my ac off my modifi2d sine inverter and batteries, I could get about 80 mins out of 240 ah of battery, down to 50%.

AC units have whats called the coefficient of performance (COP). No matter what you do, most units are probably going to run between 2.5 and maybe 4 on the high side. This means for every watt of electrical power, they remove 2.5-4 watts of heat from the cabin. Cheap units will likely be near 2 in hot conditions.

For a 2.5 COP unit, 1kw of input power will yield 2.5kw of cooling. That's about 8530 BTU/hr.

So moving to DC native is not going to magically make the system use little power. It will remove a 10-15% efficiency loss, but that may be negated by a lower COP in the new unit. Its not a simply task to work out what will happen.

I have a red dot system sitting in my container that I removed from the Ambo. Rugged but takes up some real estate. We looked at using a DC motor to drive the compressor and being able to use it parked as well as while driving but in the end it was just too much real estate and another project that I don’t have time.

Why do you need such an air conditioner, then you are not satisfied with the usual one? I am sure that since this model is new and has appeared recently, you will have many problems with it. Imagine if, for example, it leaks or its radiator or compression pump breaks, then who will undertake to fix it? No one has ever worked with such a thing before, so I think it's entirely not practical. Maybe in a few years, when more people will buy this thing, and specialists will learn how to fix such things, I would only buy such an air conditioner. Otherwise, I don't see the point of having it.
