I just my first fj80,! New to the land cruiser world but not the toyota world. The plan is to make a camping/exploring rig for the family.
Looked at alot of rigs tahoes, jeeps, pathys etc, but found this guy.
Over all she runs good, 70+ on the hwy. has some oil leaks on the valve cover, and power steering.
Front axels do not leak,
tires are newer mud tires have good tread, 265/75/16
Plans:
Valve cover gasket leaks, need to fix that,
Power steering leaks , need to change hoses first see if the stops it.
new intake tube
full tune up
egr delete
clean
33/or 35s
wheel it!

This will be use to transport the family around off road in northern NM area plus trips to Colorado, Alpine loop. black bear, etc.

Congrats on the new Cruiser! I love mine. Should be a great family wheeler for you. Go 35's. if you get 33's you'll end up going to 35's later anyway.

Thanks! Buying parts now for the valve cover stuff, the power steering leaks is the pain. Cant find where it is leaking from. I think I will replace the easy hoses first and go from there.

Nice build box rocket!

Sweet new ride, Congrats! The 80 is a great platform for what you are planning! Get those leeks fixed and treat it good and you will have it forever! Always good to see another Cruiser in NM!

Planning some work this weekend on the power steering system, also found some nasty coolant in the cooling system. So a full flush will be in order as well as some new hoses, including the PHH.
I have been doing some good research and found some great links for the PHH and other stuff.

I will be using the 2nd link for the PHH

Did the power steering return line today, it was kind of a pain. Also cleaned the battery terminals and replaced the negative terminal.
Then it did not start, found a wire on the positive terminal that a broken so had to fix that.

Also added a center diff lock button, super easy. I got a hazard switch from a friend threw it in there. I do need to put a sticker on it so i do not get confused.

Looks like you are off to a good start getting things done! Anything that has to do with power steering is always a pain. Think of it a getting you prepped for the PHH.
