Explorer Pod Build

Oh for sure. Not to mention the "wooden wonder" Mosquito airplane from WWII. That was a great plane.

Thanks ... Yes, wood is a great building material. From my experience it is very suitable for building trailer boxes.

Started to fab my own spring hangers, but came across Ruff Stuff Specialties, they had just what I needed for less than I could make them.

You and me both, I can't wait to get it on the road.

I currently have front toyota springs that are super flat at 45"long I'll head out to the local pic an pull for a set of YJ's now. Thanks a lot! I needed 43" but haven't been able to find em.

Poorboyota26, I just checked my notes, they were a 6 leaf heavy duty rear pack and measured 44 1/2 center-to-center in the eyes with no weight on them. Also, they are 2 1/2" wide.

Made the hinged portion of the tent platform and test fitted it yesterday. The bed area is 4’-8” wide x 7’ long. There is a 1x2 strip on the side of the trailer box that forms a support for the platform on that side.

Now I can roll the frame around. Welded the mounting tabs and rear rack/stabilizer jack receiver tubes on, and bolted the axle under the frame.

Building with Wood

First off, great build! I am taking a lot of notes and am looking at incorporating some of your ideas into my own future build.

Secondly, I don't want to hijack so I can start a new thread if there is interest. This build has a lot of great design ideas with wood for making complex, strong, and lightweight structures.

Thanks Matt, a thread on building with wood might be interetsing, I'd be happy to contribute. Hmmm, how about a super-trailer for the Splinter.

Now it's starting to actually look like a trailer. Test fit the body on the frame and fit the fenders.

CC that's coming together really well. Looks super efficient in design. I've a similar idea where the tent uses the RTT concept but also makes the lid of the trailer box. I've got to make the centre hinges and was hoping you could tell me what you made them out of? Are they cut from angle or cut out flat and then bent?
