I have heard of elk around here but only recently saw them for the first time...

Elbert County is a land of extremes. Severe weather. Beautiful ranches worth millions. Dilapidated shacks. Dust bowl era ruins. Russian churches. Spooky graveyards. Billionaires. Ranchers on their last leg.

^ Lots of cowboy history here.

The ghost town of Fondis was known as a rowdy last stop on cattle drives into Denver. Not much left of it.

I've also heard of people finding lots of Native American artifacts such as arrowheads and spear points. There were many encampments way back when. Prized hunting grounds and a place to hunker down in the winter.
