DOIN' TIME WITH MY CHEROKEE XJ

Installed my little switch kit to centralize everything. Much better than having one switch by my knee and another by the hood release.

Now all lights are super accessible.

Still breaking in the new suspension setup. It's night and day. We had to remove a leaf in the rear to get her to sit level. The truck tracks tight, rides smooth and even. No wallowing or excessive body roll. The suspension that came with it when I got it, was stock original, with 105k+ miles on it. So it was beat. It sits like a proper jeep now.

I had hood louvers installed as well. They were pricey pieces at around $240'ish. But the truck hasn't broken 212 degrees since installation. Before it'd run 230 in stop go traffic and coolant would boil out the expansion tank.
XJ's are pretty bullet proof. Their weak point is without a doubt the heat management of the engine in relation to the cramped quarters of the engine bay. Since replacing the entire coolant system, from tri core aluminum rad. plus hoses, plus thermostat, plus clutch fan and other bits and pieces I feel safe that she's cool as a cucumber.

The full suspension kit and hood louver install was $2k. Which is a lot of money no doubt, but the results are worth it for me.

Do you credit the lower engine temp to the louvers? It sounds like a whole new cooling system went in.

I had the cooling system done when I first bought the jeep. She ran around 220 in stop go. The 212 temps were only seen with the addition of the louvers. At traffic lights you can see the heat escaping in that mirage like wave from the vents.

Are those the Run Cool vents? If so, what size? I can't find any dang Lebaron vents in the junkyards around me so I've been eyeing those. Good looking XJ.

To book end this little guy's story, I sold her and am currently on the hunt for a 5th gen 4Runner. Simply wanting more space and 4x4.

Sad you let her go.. I have a huge soft spot for the XJ. You will enjoy the 4x4, even in a "toyota".. :)
Nice clean build, and I look forward to reading about your 4runner!
