If I were starting over I'd probably just carry a handheld cb for trail runs. Generally you're just listening and or communicating with the vehicle in front or behind you. A handheld is adequate for such use.

Well, decision made. The TRC-465 with PowerMic was taken to the radio tech for a good look over. 100% ready to go. Little Wil antenna on instead of the 102 whip. Done with that part. Looking for a solution to mount this thing up. I'd rather not punch holes in the dash...

Not super fancy, but I decided to pick up a 5 way power including solar, USB, lithium, AAA, hand crank, and AC wall power emergency radio with 7 channel NOAA weather radio, no need for alert function, also has AM, FM, and SW. I admit I like shortwave for some funky reason... Only slightly larger than the old 3 channel weatheralert radio, It will easily stow in a door pocket in the truck...
