Cooper AT3 vs. Falken Wildpeak vs. BFG AT KO

All 3 are really similar tires. Having seen all 3 side by side even though the tread patterns are similarly aggressive, the sidewall pattern on the Hankook and the scalloped lugs on the ATP make them both appear to be more rugged than the AT3 especially when viewed in profile while the reality is the are very very similar. I plan on getting whichever is cheapest at the time I order. All things being equal I'd get the Hankooks.

funny that everyone seems to think of the AT3 and ATP as more aggressive than the Dynapro ATM. I think the Dynapro and the ATP are pretty much the same, and the AT3 is a rather non-aggressive version of a 5-rib AT tire. All are great - not knocking any of the tread patterns at all. Just don't see how the ATP is more aggressive looking than the ATM (or the AT3).

The Coopers definitely appear to have wider voids than the Hankooks:

not as much difference as that picture makes it look. in that pic, we're comparing dirty, somewhat worn ATMs with new, clean (in the voids) ATPs. I park next to a friend at work sometimes who has ATPs. From 20feet away, the only difference is the sidewall.

Looks are great but I want the beat tire to drive on the highway 800 miles then take me all over Northern Colorado and then back home. Big expectations here

Any of these would be fine unless you want to do deep mud or snow. In that case I would look at the Cooper ST Maxx

One of the things that make the AT3 so good is the silica infused compound they use . It sticks very well in the wet . I have been running them for a year on my daily driver and am real happy with these tires .

I have had the stt which shares the carcass with the maxx . It is a stout tire and road very nice for a mud tire . It is heavier but worth the penalty if they have your size . I would have bought the maxx in a heart beat if they made it in my size but had to go with the AT3 . At least I was able to get it in a LT format .

Doesn't the S/T MAXX also use this same (or similar) high-silica compound?

Vistacruiser-- can you compare the AT3 and ST Maxx on and off road? Thanks!

I'm running the 245/70R17 ST Maxx now, and the 235/70R17 AT3. You can feel the weight of the ST Maxx, but MAN have I been surprised by the on-road handling of the ST Maxx. It's been extremely wet here in Colorado, and hitting puddles you can feel the water evacuate while the tire plows through. Controlled acceleration and braking on wet surfaces with both tires, longer braking distance with the ST Maxx (weight). Slightly louder than the AT3, and stiffer E load range vs. the XL load range on the AT3. I'm not running any lift on the WJ Jeep yet, so my control arms are flat which help soften the feel of the E load range tire. The AT3 just left me wanting something more aggressive with the way spring/fall trail conditions are here. Sidewall strength is great on both tires, with nice fat beads so no worries airing down. For me, the ST Maxx solved all the issues ON road that I had with the Trxus MT without compromising the off road traction, durability, and confidence in performance. Hope this helps!

Just wanted to add, the AT3 was no slouch off road. Tin Cup and Mosquito Pass were run with no issues, and provided a smooth, comfortable ride. Look at the tread depths for all the tires, and I believe the AT3 has deeper tread across all sizes, especially in the LT tire. Coopers also tend to run closer to published sizes.

This just sealed the deal for me. Thank you guys! I will post pictures whenever I get my AT3s
