Hi all:
I have a Sony Handycam (HDR-CX-160) and am just now for the first time looking to use the video I have captured. I found I had to download the proprietary Sony software just to get it off the camera and into the iMac. Now it seems like I have to convert the files into something usable in iMovie. But the Sony software's "Convert Files" option does NOT convert the files. Just gives me a "can't convert the files" message. Some research points me to third party video converters, such as iSkysoft for $35.00. Is this really the only way I can access and use the video I've shot with this camera, to get it into iMove so I can do something with it apart from just watching raw footage on a t.v. screen? This just seems stupid. Shame on me I suppose for not doing more research before I bought, but I just assumed all video cameras worked like digital still cameras in terms of file format compatibility.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Steve
