Clunk clunk clunk

Hello All,

My 3rd Gen Limited (2003) has a clunk in the driveline somewhere. I know it’s not the diff (diff has been swapped due to axle popping out). The drive shaft seems to have some play in it, and the noise is waaaay less (but still very present) in 4wd.

Does anyone have tips for common causes of this?

Thanks!

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
Does it "cluck" when shifting? Is it a continuous noise, or does it come and go?
When was the last time your rig had an ATF flush?

It does it when I accelerate, or when in traffic (on the gas, clunk, off the gas, clunk). Even at speed. Its like there is something lose In the drive line. It doesn’t do it when it’s shifting. Tranny was flushed about 40,000kms ago. It did it before the flush as well. It’s actually done it the 3 years I have owned it, but as it gets older, I’m trying to get these annoyances fixed!

I’d be looking at your rear control arm bushings. Sometimes they’ll get bad enough on one side that it feels like the asss end will shift to one side on accel and then back again in decel.
Good luck
