Thank you! I'm still working on building the FJ into a self-supported overland rig but then again, who is ever completely happy with their build? ;-)
True, I only (famous last words) have a rear bumper to do, but have not decided yet which brand.

How is your handling with the Maggiolina on the stock rack?
I ran mine for two years that way, and I got blown all over the freeway with any wind over 15 MPH.

Have had mine on a BajaRack built for the Maggiolinas, and it lowered the tent about 2", and it handles much better now.

The FJ definitely gets blown around in the wind more with this set up but it hasn't been too bad or dangerous. I was more worried about it getting tippy while 4 wheeling and I haven't really noticed that at all. I'd like to install a Front Runner rack, which would lower it a couple inches, but I've got a fridge/freezer, dual battery set-up, auxiliary lighting, Goal Zero and on and on to purchase/install before I worry about the rack!

South Padre Island, February 15, 2013

I took this as the sun was setting and long before the 2:30 am maelstrom of 50+ mph wind and sand forced us to hastily tear down camp and beat a retreat off the beach, stopping to help dig someone else out along the way.

Found this one on my phone from last spring in Tuscumbia, AL.

This weekend in the van outside Holly Springs, MS. Still getting used to "camping" in the van vs tent. Helps convince the girls of cold temp adventures though...
