Campfire In A Can (Wood burner)

Yup, the Camp Chef Redwood is a nice little setup and the bag makes it pretty easy to transport. Good price as well.

You're not going to keep 8 people warm with it, but it puts out decent heat if you scooch in a bit. :D

You'd be surprised. These were very popular at the recent Mountain Rendezvous due to the burn-ban. Folks were like moths to the flame of the Lil' Red nearest us; at one point someone counted 16 people huddled around!

XRunner - the Camp Fire in a Can or the Camp Chef? You mention latches and the Camp Chef version packs away in a canvas carrying case. It doesn't have the latchable cover like the Camp Fire in a Can does.

Brent, mine is the Camco Little Red Campfire form Amazon Honu posted above above my reply. Sorry for any confusion!

Thanks for the reply's and feedback. Did see one of the Camco (I think) units at MRV. Nice, but as stated, not great heat to huddle around.

While I do love my washing machine wood burning fire pit, with the horrific drought here in California, I seriouslly leaning toward one of these because of the wood fire bans, which, I will of course support whole heartedly! Certainy easier to transport than the tub and wood on my roof rack. These units will fit in the trailer for transport - Woopee-better gas mileage for sure...oh wait, I drive a landcruiser!

Anyone know what happened with this? When you go to their site they only have the propane version. The kickstarter link says that has ended...

Would be interested in the wood/coal version...don't know where to get one...

Haha.. I was basing it on getting good warmth into the low 40's / high 30's, which is what temps were in the pics I posted above. For more moderate temps, especially if it's just for the effect of the fire to gather around, I can definitely see that. Hell, we have used it when temps were in the upper 70's just for that "campfire" feel. Burn bans suck, and camping without a fire to gather around at night just doesn't seem right. :D

And although it's probably not "recommended", also as you see in the above pics, using it under an awning or pop-up is great. The cover keeps warmth in, no smoke to have to constantly dodge, and so far, no negative effects! Hell, lack of smoke is one of the things I like best. You can get full 360 degree seating as opposed to most wood fires where 1/4 to 1/3 of the potential seating is lost due to the smoke. Although, I do miss the smell of a campfire when using it. :)

while silly :) I don't miss the sparks flying up and melting tiny holes in my gear :)

Still no wood burner version...nobody know what happened to that KS project?

If you click on the updates on the kickstarter page, it appears that they didn't get enough backers and so cancelled the project. They are planning to re-introduce it again, however.

We're planning on relaunching in early 2015, which means we're aiming to have backers receive their Campfire In A Can around the time that camping season gets underway. Timing of the campaign was something that was brought up by backers quite a few times - we agree that poor timing of our original campaign really held the funding back.
