Campfire In A Can (Wood burner)

I have the propane Campfire in a Can and love it!

I have to say the wood burner is smart for when you camp at a place that doesn't already have a fire pit, and want a wood fire (and am out of propane). Nice addition.

Looks nice. We also have the propane version and love it. A lot of people ask us about it. Very interested in the wood one as well.

YIKES saw that a while ago but had not seen how it works ? seems a bit to many thin little pieces all over the place

for sure other options for above ground fire pits seem way better :) but they seem to make a great propane ring which I do love having a propane fire setup with so many burn bans :)

Like what? Got a favorite? I like this design in a can, but my exposure to these things is limited.
I've used this style a lot on rivers:

Their pricing isn't well described, but the value seems decent if you can get the basic setup without tongs, skewers, etc for $68.
Probably worthwhile over cheap chinese options like THESE.

Snow Peak not cause I like some of there stuff like the IGT simply a great design folds flat 3 sizes to choose from lots of options for cooking on it also
downside is SP is pricey once you get all the options :) but seen lots just use the main folding thing out fast simple easy and reasonable for that

I think the new CFIAC wood burner is very promising.
And the fact the wood stands up straight, burns better.

Reminds of me the Russian Campfire trick where you stand the wood up like that, but cut cross marks across the top for gas :D
I cannot find that video, but I saw it on Muds camping section years ago.
Here is something similar with the wood standing up.

Some F bombs in the video below.

Hey, I found it on Mud.

Anyone else like this thing? Any kickstarter backers here yet? Seems great for rivers.
Ever had a portable fire blow over in a stiff breeze? Seems like a concern with this and the snow peak.
I must not have scrolled all the way through their page, but now I see that their pricing scheme is all wrong. I'd much rather buy just the burner and the can. The inserts are just debris in my opinion, and they only offer 1 option that actually includes the can?!? Oh well. Clever idea, but I'll stick to my ring of rocks for now.

Anyone with experience with Camp Chef's Redwood propane fire pit. At $102 w/free shipping from Amazon ($175 retail) vs Campfire in a Can at $250 seems like a good one. I've been very happy with quality of other Camp Chef products I have. BTU output is a less at 55,000 vs 64,000.

I think its about pack size and can it be packed up easy and transported easy
the campfire in a can or the little red one are both lid on clip and done kinda thing and can move around easy the little red one is smaller for sure but not quite as robust and nice but also less than half the price
another thread somewhere on a few of these somewhere buried in the forums :)

what I have and just noticed they make a big one now to that you can put on the lid :)

I have one and it's a great piece of kit that works like it should and a good value for the price. I use it mostly when there's a (wood) fire ban or chilly mornings when we are packing up and don't want to have to deal with putting out a 'real' fire. A friend of mine regularly borrows it for RV camping in the concrete jungle around bicycle races he frequents.

My minor issues after around 2 years of use: I did crack the (composite?) heat shield at some point after lots of rough roads and less than idea trailer packing. The latches don't always stay latched, and soot the falls out of the bottom occasionally so don't store around anything that needs to stay clean. It still works great though, so no real complaints!

XRunner - the Camp Fire in a Can or the Camp Chef? You mention latches and the Camp Chef version packs away in a canvas carrying case. It doesn't have the latchable cover like the Camp Fire in a Can does.

I have had one for a couple of years and love it. We have used it camping and have taken it to friend's houses for parties. We initially bought it because we were going to be spending a week in Colorado at almost 11,000', and there was a burn ban. You're not going to keep 8 people warm with it, but it puts out decent heat if you scooch in a bit. :D

It is kind of bulky but no more so than hauling a bunch of wood (if you cannot collect wood at camp).
