Brake Linings in the PNW

Gotta Be Nuts
Hey all, I seem to remember someone getting their brake linings redone somewhere in the PNW, Oregon would be the best as this is where I would do the work (and possibly drums turned if required). Any chance it was someone on this board and if so can you point me in the right direction? Not sure I need to but since I will soon be pulling apart the front wheel hubs for a re-grease I would take a look. I have started to notice a little squeak from the front while braking. Hopefully if we do need to do them I would not need to order anything from Europe because of timing. April will be a busy month with truck projects.

Unimogbrrlated and my 404s and U1200 experience. With the 404 stuff I used Scott at Expedition Imports. As far as larger Mogs as already mentioned Jim at Eurotech and Scott at EI. Vin number is key to making sure you get the right parts for a rebuild.

As far as my experience with my 404...pretty straight forward. I had stripped everything. New linings were ordered based on the wear of the drums. (Yes different sizes available.) Shoes were bonded and riveted and arched to the drum. Any reputable brake shop can do this. After this I reassembled. As far as brake cylinders and master cylinders. New OEM cylinders were ordered then I had Scott at EI send them to a company to have them sleeved to prevent rust ect and better longevity. ($less than $150)

As far as mu U1200. Different beast. I ordered my parts through Atkinson Vos. But before I ordered the parts I sent my calipers to John @ Goldline Brakes in WA. He disassembled them and told me what to order. Parts for the U1200 are $$$. John is an expert at rebuilding calipers. He's also an expert in Porsche, MB, and any other unique rare rebuilding or restoration of calipers. He did a AAA job and reccomend him highly. He can also paint the calipers/baked on your choice of color.

Some pics of the large 747 brake calipers on the rear. Huge and heavy.

I also have been looking at brake options. I reached out to terra-exp and they quoted this.

"All parts together would be $4,300.00 plus shipping & custom.
We do have a shipment starting next week, and we would be able to get you shipment into the shipping to shorten the shipping fee, approx. $500.00"1662169920352.png1662169920441.png

Gotta Be Nuts
Hi, as we are working our way back south I am starting to work on my TODO list and getting parts ordered. And one of the things on the list is doing the brakes as I found the front drums to be "heat checked" when I serviced the front wheel bearings. I am actually researching right now the parts and trying to find a supplier. Frustratingly enough we should be able to get these parts directly from Mercedes USA, just they can't seem to get their computer system straightened out for our trucks (guess not a real high priority). I am trying once again with hopes they have gotten it figured out since the last time I tried.

From what I found previously the shipping it going to be pretty expensive as the drums are heavy chunks of steel. One thing though is you can get aftermarket drums from DT for a bit less than OEM. So far the DT stuff I have gotten looks pretty good. If/when I figure this stuff out I will update this thread. I am looking on doing all 4 wheels, new drums/pads and springs.

And if you haven't done your front wheel bearings I would suggest looking into it. I did ours and the grease was pretty firm and needed replacement.
