Black Mesa Preserve, Oklahoma

Just some quick photos from a hike to the highest point in Oklahoma located in the Black Mesa Preserve along with some random abandoned buildings along the way.

At the start of the trail.

View from near the top of the Mesa

The monument noting the highest point (little over 4 miles from the trail head).

There is a small section of dinosaur tracks in the creek bottom across the way from the trail head parking lot - those photos are not uploading and they are kind of difficult to see.

I've lived in Oklahoma my entire life and have never visited here. I've wanted to, but it always seems out of the way. Thanks for the photos, I will check it out someday!

I did Black Mesa almost 40 years ago. There was no trail then, just picked a good line up through the rocks and kept an eye out for the rattlesnakes. Glad to hear it is a preserve now with some protection. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in that area.
