Between cab and camper tool box

I have a long bed 3/4 ton full size 8 foot bed. We’re considering a four wheel pop up or Alaskan or palomino. I would like to get a 6.5 foot camper and install a custom toolbox between the camper and cab in the existing bed. I’ve seen this setup with a flatbed and tunnel box, but never in a factory bed setup. It would be a cab height box with doors on the sides above the factory bed sides. Is there any reason not to do this? The rear axle would be in the same position under the camper as a 6.5ft camper in a 6.5ft bed.

If you buy the right type of top there is some roof holding capacity. You can put a roof top box like a Yakima or Thule box. I can't imagine loosing inside capacity for outside tool storage.

Have you considered installing a utility bed on your truck for storage and adding the popup camper to that?
