Benefits of biodiesel

Thank you for this. Very helpful.

I'm thinking of getting a diesel and using a local biodiesel source. According to the study soy-based bio diesel is a good thing for engines.

FYI: (partial results) In Order Of Performance:

1) 2% REG SoyPower biodiesel
HFRR 221, 415 micron improvement.
50:1 ratio of baseline fuel to 100% biodiesel
66.56 oz. of 100% biodiesel per 26 gallons of diesel fuel
Price: market value

2)Opti-Lube XPD
Multi-purpose + anti-gel
cetane improver, demulsifier
HFRR 317, 319 micron improvement.
256:1 ratio
13 oz/tank
$4.35/tank

3)FPPF RV, Bus, SUV Diesel/Gas fuel treatment
Gas and Diesel
cetane improver, emulsifier
HFRR 439, 197 micron improvement
640:1 ratio
5.2 oz/tank
$2.60/tank

4)Opti-Lube Summer Blend
Multi-purpose
demulsifier
HFRR 447, 189 micron improvement
3000:1 ratio
1.11 oz/tank
$0.68/tank

5)Opti-Lube Winter Blend
Muti-purpose + anti-gel

My pleasure Waltzing Matilda!
I use a biodiesel blend as well. When I'm traveling and camping I have a quart of Opti-lube XPD with me. I was surprised to see many of the additives that are very popular adding little to no value. For what it's worth I have a 7.3 liter and she runs like the day I bought it.

I run Supertech 2-stroke oil on occasion, mostly in the winter.

MUCH cheaper than any fancy bottle.

If this is the WallyWorld $12.15 per gallon jug, it is what I use. You can hear the difference before and after. I've tried others and this is what I go with. I always keep a jug in the Excursion.

I always hated chemistry. EE didn't require a lot of chemistry classes, and zero organic chemistry. I just used the cited resource.

Hello all. I have a 2003 EB 50 7.3L 4x4 SMB with 75,000 miles. I just learned today that I should be adding an additive to my fuel at every fillup. What are the thoughts on this? What additives are guys using and what do you all think is the best? Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers! Fernando

Fernando-

I don't worry about a fuel additive but I do care about a coolant additive. Before I bought my 7.3, all my Ford Head buddies made sure to tell me about cavitation and what you need to do to protect the cylinders. Here is a quick snippet from another forum. Tons of stuff on the web you can read about it.

This link is to a post ^^ that is for '99 and newer diesels- do I need to check on this for my '97 E350 7.3 turbo?

Are there additives for the coolant that I need to check... I just had the coolant topped off when I had the system checked. Was that wrong- do I need to use something different?

(....rats.... so much to learn with a diesel...)
