Battery Isolator

Old Camping Dude
I have a nissan 2014 Nissan Frontier. My plan is to add a removable/portable battery box in the bed to leave at base camp with my solar set up to power things if I need the truck to explore.

My question is, if i have a battery isolator and i remove the aux battery will this damage the battery isolator since there is not battery to actually sense charge and send power to?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I don't know about ACRs, but my isolator is a fairly simple toggled solenoid from Painless Performance. With my setup, I can remove either the starting battery or the house batteries and still start and drive the truck. No damage to the isolator.

A relay based system doesn't care if there is a battery on either side as long as the cables are properly tied off and can't short. The relay will simply open and close in response to the ignition key, override switch, or intelligent controller.
