Bantam Trailer Build

I cut off the bent round tube on top of the tub and am adding the square tube. I need to order the axle tomorrow. The trailer is getting too heavy for me to move around easily and if I weld the floor on I wont be able to pick it up. 20200225_165328_copy_600x800.jpg

Using the square tube for the top rail is a cool idea. It would probably make putting on a lid that much easier.

Floor welded in, tub tacked on, square tube on top, and everything level. 2000 pound axle getting here tomorrow, 2.5" Rancho leaf springs here on the 9th and spring hangers here on the 14th. I still have work to do on the front lower section, I ran out of time. There is about a 1/4 of the tub to grind with a wire wheel and then POR15 the entire tub. 20200305_173412_copy_600x800.jpg20200305_173417_copy_600x800.jpg20200305_191634_copy_800x600.jpg20200305_191642_copy_600x800.jpg

I got some more work done on the trailer today. I triangulated the axle with the front of the trailer and installed the leaf springs and mounts. I will be ordering 13" wide fenders 20200313_155650_copy_600x800.jpg20200313_163502_copy_800x600.jpg

Coming along slowly but progressing. This project has gone on too long so I will be putting more effort towards it. I primered, then POR15 the whole trailer, top, sides and bottom. The bottom got rubberized undercoating. Then the interior and outside got 3 coats of Herculiner. I have a tongue trailer box coming Monday for the front and will be installing the brake lights this weekend.

I finished the initial project and added a roof top tent. It is the biggest roof top tent Tepui makes, the Autana 4. It is the exact width and 2 inches shorter then the tub of the trailer. I added a cage 12 inches above the tub for now. Maybe I will add a electric lift system later but I am going to use it for now.

Went to test the trailer out in the Death Valley area. I Love It. It tracks true and holds anything I need. I tried going up a nasty well known 4x4 trail named Goler Wash but couldnt make it over Mengel Pass with the trailer. It was brutal and awesome. Tested the rubicon jeep and trailer. Rest of the trip was easy and relaxing. Some of the problems I encountered is not being able to lock my gear in the trailer while I explored away from camp. I brought my generator with me while I left camp, but would of like to leave it behind in the trailer locked up with the fuel. I am going to make a sliding lid that can double as a table I think. With tabs for locks. It will slid in level with top of tub. Eventually.

Nice job! I did something similar with an "MBT Willy's" Jeep trailer.
