I feel that we need an ATV/UTV thread I'll go first.

I have a 94 Kawisaki Bayou 300 4X4

Do we really need an ATV thread?

Not to belittle the folks who enjoy ATV's but do they really fit in with the goals/objectives of Expedition Portal. (Note I am speaking from a user's perspective and I certainly don't represent the forum administration) From what I have seen of the ATV users, they tend to do day trips in their local area. Expedition Portal seems to be more focused on those who seek to travel to different areas and providing the guidance one would seek to reach those far off lands.
Even the motorcycle section is focused on doing multi-day trips. We do not see threads on Moto Cross or Enduro riding. There are many forums that focus on ATV activities as there are for enduro and Moto Cross.

There is an entire sub fourm just for bicycles, I don't know about you but I wouldn't ride a huffy cross country anymore than an ATV. But that's not the point I'm trying to convey. You and I both know there are many, many members who have ATV's for what ever purpose, this thread is intended simply as a fourm for experienced members to share knowledge with less experienced members. And for members to find other members in there area, that's all. Heck there is entire thread for guys to post pics of their AR-15, how is this any different?

Have to agree with Aquafbody on this one........I'm sure there are a lot of folks who get out and explore utilizing and ATV, isn't that the point?

Never seen an offroad go-kart have you. You are looking more towards a "Back Country Adventure- A one-day or multi-day off-highway trip on an adventure motorcycle or in a 4WD vehicle." Not an expedition, which needs considerable planning. You mention excursion, which yes, you can take a couple days worth of goodies out on an ATV, buzz around, and go home. But that is far from being close to an expedition. Also, this is in a 2-wheel forum. Wrong place.

I'll let others argue as to whether this thread is in the right location on Expedition Portal.

Personally, I like to explore roads and trails and see what there is to see. I have many ways to do this... and yes, one of them is an ATV. While the ATV (here in WA) is limited to certain roads and trails, it is a great choice many times. Economical, comfortable, can haul/tow quite a load and able to handle the toughest trails. Good bang for buck!

Our family owns three Can-AMs. My daughter has a Rally 200, and my wife and I own Outlander 400s. Here is my wife's machine from a trip last spring.

Sorry, I guess that I opened a big can of worms

There is no doubt that I do not have that great a grasp of what can be done on an ATV. What I see in the southwest is folks driving them to trail heads, unloading them then taking off on short trail runs. Very similar to what some folks do with their enduro bikes. I just have not seen that type of recreation covered within Expedition Portal. To address an earlier reply; I have actually ridden through more states on my touring bicycle than I have covered with my Tacoma.

Gee Mikey, I certainly hope the Quad Squad boys don't read this.

Please check out their story (links below) and I'm sure it might change your thoughts. If there is going to be a thread for ATVs then IMO, their noble expoits should be part of it and hopefully inspire others.

That's neat. But seriously this forum would really benefit from an ATV section. For example I have been having cold start issues and that's a real drag during hunting season in the middle of nowhere. I would be really nice to ask some fellas here that too live in cold climates how to fix the issue.
