With the plugs out, it should rotate pretty easily.... The compressed air puts the cylinder in bottom dead center. Then I fed the rope in and used a socket on the crank bolt to mash the rope into the bottom of the valves to keep them from falling into the cylinder.You can rotate the engine compressed air? No need to access timing belt and crankshaft? Am i understanding correctly? Im going to take on the valve stem seals project soon on my 2002 Montero.
I did the job with the front part of the engine still on and the heads in place.
