Excelsior!
I was able to spend a few a few days in Panamint Valley and used what was left of the town called Ballarat
as a base camp.

I really enjoyed exploring the old mining trails that wound their way up the rugged canyons.

We spent several days in DV back in early November. We stayed one night in the Beater Cabin you pictured. Wondering if you did Chicken Rock to arrive there.

I did not go past the Rock but came directly up the canyon.
I had a new offroader with me who was driving a rental Jeep and it was best not to push our luck. ;)

I got too close and damaged a fender. I’ll admit that trail, at least the narrow part, spooked me.

Sorry to hear that happened! Was that the 4Runner?

Yep the 4Runner, that right front fender likes to reach out for rocks. Damaged it to the tune of $1600 on the Kokopelli a couple of years ago. On the DV trip I got a small crunch going over Mengle then Chicken Rock got me pretty good. But I’m just going to touch it up and call it battle scars.
