Composites like that are not terribly intuitive. CF might have a higher tensile strength, but the resin still makes up a significant part of the mix. Toughness (total energy absorbed prior to complete failure) may be comparable between the two. Crushing strength for a 3D object can also be heavily impacted by thickness of the buildup, so a thinner buildup with CF (with similar tensile strength) may not perform as well.

Its analogous to high strength aluminum alloys and steel. The Al may have similar tensile strength, but the steel is much tougher, taking significantly more energy to reach ultimate failure.

In the end I am sure they are both safe, its just an interesting consideration.

We never added the sofa table back into the Tiger but, my talented wood working neighbor had a left over Boos Butcher block counter top from a custom job and we (he) cut out the new table. Should look great in the Tiger and gives me a place to place my bourbon finally!

One of the benefits of being quarantined is I’m finally going through my analog “tub-o-photographs” file and found these great shots of our 2002 special order Ford F-350 “0ff-Road” crew cab, 4wd, V10, dually, plow/camper/ambo packages with a custom Lance 1130 hauling our 1994 Samurai. Ford wasn’t offering the off-road package on the f350 back then, but I knew the fleet manager and he got it added. I seem to recall it came with skid plates, shocks and decals. we put a ton of miles on that beast, all east of the Rockies, before the midlife crisis....

One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to with our new shop is getting the Tiger inside during the winters. A Tigers roof is made up of fiberglass, structural design and wooden slate. Here we routinely get 2 feet of snow over night resulting in me climbing a ladder with a broom and pushing/pulling the snow off the roof. I haven’t noticed any cracks or stress but, 2 feet of snow across the roof is easily several hundred pounds.....looking forward to summer!478FB092-FD44-4E77-B527-9D9F18593056.jpeg

BritKLR-
I am rebuilding a Tiger right now... mostly still in planning stage but she is already completely gutted. Curious if you had any trouble installing the plywood on the ceiling where it curves upward at the cab area?

Sorry, just seeing this. No issues doing the ceiling install. I used the removed old ceiling panel as the template for the new birch paneling. Once cut, sanded and finished I put wood adhesive on each of the wood slats and using the correct length staples (too long and they’ll penetrate the fiberglass shell/roof) my wife and I held it in place and stapled it in place. I did add some 2x4 braces to hold it in place for a day or so to let the glue set. No problem since. Good luck!

What’s great about a domestic truck based 4wd camper is when the oem alternator finally dies you can swap it out in the auto parts parking lot! Just found this old memory from heading to OE East a couple of years ago. 53FE331C-A85D-44F2-9C3E-26DECE95F36A.jpeg30E5DCA9-1CB6-4F45-BBC2-BA3995817BD0.jpeg2542407B-E0DD-479D-AB84-AD95877EC020.jpeg

Haven't updated the Tiger thread for a while since we've been busy with ATC Thread Shed build and new home for the Tiger.
We did get to put a few miles on it this summer doing the loneliest road in America out to Reno but then had to immediately turn around due to a forest fire that broke out close to our home.
Anyway, The Tiger now gets to live inside and no longer has to shiver through the long, cold Colorado winters! I also get to keep it prepped and ready for more easier deployments!

Your own slice of heaven.......those of us in suburbia track house postage stamp sized lot hell can only be in awe.

?

Thanks. It has been a change from our life in suburbia but, KC suburbia was a great place to work, live and raise a son. I feel for the young parents in the mountains that have to deal with the liberal Colorado drug policies and the hour long commutes to get their kids into any school or athletic program.
But, for a retired old fart its truly heaven! Cheers and look forward to running into you at some future OE event!
