Great build. I just purchased an 89 HJ61 high roof in the same color scheme. I'm trying to decide if copying ALL of your ideas is inappropriate lol. We have the same needs more or less. May I ask why no winch?

Sorry for the late reply. Completely missed your question.
As for a winch, following a minor t-bone crash with a mini van and losing my ARB, I upgraded to the newer ARB with a warn 8274. This has been a great combination for the last 5-6 years. Good luck with your build!

Living at 8200 feet we get our fair share of snow, but last week after returning from the 2017 OE in Flagstaff (BTW, awesome event and we love our customers! Thanks!) we came home to a spring snow storm resulting in over 30 inches of heavy wet snow. Our 1975 Iron Pig 55 worked its ******** off. I had to plow every hour otherwise the poor old thing couldn't move the stuff. Unfortunately, we lost one of our old trees....the really sad thing about the tree is it was probably 200-300 years old. It was on the property 100 years ago when they mined tungsten and used it as a mine head anchor and it still had the original telegraph wire and hangers from when they had telegraph between Boulder. Co and Nederland. We'll miss sitting under this old giant....

Well......it's obviously been awhile since I've updated this thread...........so....... version 2.0.

There was a phrase we use to use when things got busy, "life interrupted" due to work well, that's kinda what has happened to my dear old friend the "Rhino Ride" but, this year that's all going to change!

I have an opportunity to participate in some off-road training in Moab that is a prelude to an event this summer. I have just under 60 days to get the old rig back into fighting shape and thought I'd share the journey here!

As the RR sits right now:

The "to do" list:

The current BFG's are over 15 years old and have serious sidewall and tread cracks so those will be replaced in the next week or so.

A full tune--up and fluid change is next.

The valves are a little noisey so, those and the carb will get adjusted.

Full lube and brake check.

New plugs and check the cap, rotor and wires.

Since I'll be working and living out of the rig in and around Moab for 4-5 days I'll need to update my camping arrangement. Meaning, I've done the roof top tent thing, the ground tent thing, the "in the wild" on the ground thing so, now I'll mod the inside and do the "sleep inside the truck" thing with my trusty Engel fridge and gear.EA7383AB-06DB-47FF-9A2C-7EFD9FF2B8D8.jpeg6476A4E1-FD62-4999-A15F-3D865DF955D4.jpeg

IMHO, the "sleep inside the truck thing" is the best of all the options. I had no idea that you had this truck, glad to be brought up to speed on this.

Thanks! Yeah, I haven't done the inside of the truck thing (except the onetime when we go caught in a storm in the middle of Kansas....) but, I like what others have done so this summer seems like a great opportunity to try.

Yeah, the RR has been a real trooper for the past 16-17 years. It was our deer hunting truck, spring break exploring truck, Colorado pass bagging truck, Moab truck, sand dune truck and even an ambulance and my original ATC "mobile show room" truck! Now back to its roots!

I will be reusing my original cargo platform in the back but, it just won't be so crammed full of stuff (and less beer...) and all the storage will now be.........that's right! Adventure Tool Company gear and some super cool Zarges cases!B6257B7A-5478-4CEA-B2CE-B87530939B33.jpeg29377386-5AE6-4D2B-8EFB-596CAC0F6615.jpeg22529E2D-3A99-42B3-B32A-7B1A36FC1390.jpeg24180D46-4A01-468F-A133-101D42623828.jpegEDFC7E98-E56C-49DC-904D-A8651D2B280E.jpegAAB19885-AB47-4970-B886-ACC6112E5DB2.jpegC389FA12-29BE-40FC-8ADE-D4F75BCDD100.jpeg38FBF47C-CB82-4F38-8389-CB2C6BC45534.jpegEE9E9C64-1A0F-47D6-9323-E7E296BA5449.jpeg

Your base platform is what gave me the idea to do the same thing in my LJ.
Love that thing!

And I’ve always like the look of your pioneer tool holder on your spare tire. Full size tools, simple, clean
