The Lowe's near me has theirs on clearance also. They only had the 24-gallon ones, at $24.xx so I grabbed the two they had left.

What about the front runner boxes? They have neat little grooves in the top and look pretty cool. Not sure of the price of quality comparisons?

Anyone used these? How do they compare to action packers?

They would be better than the packers due to the sheer walls that they have. The only thing you have to do is replace the plastic clips with metal ones. You can get them at Sierra Expeditions. They also stack better than the Packers as well. Hope this helps.

I've been using these since last summer for camping / recovery supplies in the back of my FJ. So far, they've held up well. Verticle walls and they don't slide around like my packers do. The only problems I've had so far would be that I dropped one of the lids from around 8ft onto concrete and it cracked/broke.....but it did hit at an angle. Also, if rained on the lids will hold water, and you can't really sit on them, but they don't leak and they're flat so you can use them as a table top. Cheap too and you can get them at most office supply stores.

LOWES has them in stock where I live.....$19.99. And since they no longer make them they're all NOS.... get them whilst you can.

I've been hearing that same rumor that they've been discontinued for probably five years now, maybe longer. Since Rubbermaid continues to list and sell them on their website, and they are still readily available in stores, I don't believe it.

Just 3 months ago someone asked on their website if the 15.5 gal size was still available. Here is the answer, direct from Rubbermaid:

The ActionPacker line is currently offered in four sizes - 8, 24, 35, and 48 gallons. We do not currently offer a 15.5 gallon ActionPacker.

That certainly doesn't sound like they have been discontinued. It baffles me that this rumor keeps popping up.

MYTH: Action Packers discontinued

Because of the long running and repeated myth that Action Packers have been discontinued, I wrote to Rubbermaid a few days ago asking if they had been discontinued, or will be in the near future. Here is the response I got from Rubbermaid:

Thank you for contacting Rubbermaid and taking the time to visit our website.

I reviewed this with our specialist, she said the Action Packer is not being discontinued at this time.

Sincerely,
Morgan First
