Abandoned/derelict sites

Cabrito

I come in Peace
This is in the Presidio (Former) Army Base here in San Francisco It is near some old Hangars at Crissy Field which used to be an air strip. Looks like one of those service ramps to drain fluids from vehicles. It's definitely not being use for this any longer..

You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from here too.

Found this abandoned drag strip near our house. This was just a small operation and 1/8 mi
about 2 miles of dirt country roads to get to it.
Also had a Go Cart Track on the property.
First photo is a entrance booth
Next is the Drag strip
and finally the stands for the strip
the go cart track had some larger stands.

Very cool! There is a 1/4 mile dragway a little bit from me that closed up in the 70s. The airport next to it bought it up but the strip and tower are still there. My dad took me there when I was a kid to see all the big names back then, Prudhomme, McEwen, (yes, I got to see the Snake and Mongoose battle!) Garlits, Muldowney, Kalita, etc. I am going to sneak in there one of these days for some photos.

Seems lots of airports had racetracks nearby, or become racetracks
For about 20 years I took part in a time trials held every year
on the abandoned airport at Manzanar in the Owens valley.
Not sure if it still happens, but the surface was getting pretty bad.
Whenever I pass by I always stop and drive down the runways.IMG_20161225_073257.jpg
