A camper worth waiting for

Yesterday we made the trip to AAV to have the passenger bench seat taken out to be reupholstered, then drove it a little further north to where the pass through will be cut out as per what AAV have on their trucks. The trip was largely trouble free, and it was hard not to imagine how awesome this truck is going to be to travel in. The cruise control was a fantastic addition, and greatly increased the comfort for the 7 hours on the road. I half filled the big diesel tank, and brimmed the standard tank so I could calculate the fuel economy on arrival. For some extra weight, I made up the brackets last week for the grey water tanks that sit behind the rear wheels and filled the tanks with water for the trip. Those, plus the 300kg for the subframe and mounts, plus the spare wheel and diesel, was enough to make the rear suspension work and I didn't notice any unnecessary bounce back there at all. I found that even the front suspension was perfectly serviceable, but I'll certainly look to change it to move away from the bump stops a little more. The one time I did hit them, everything unsecured in the cab was no longer where it once was! Oh and I also made up the rear winch bar, fitted some mudguards from Dynaplas, added (temporarily mounted) running lights and indicators down the subframe, remade and moved forward the battery tray to make room for the new tank and fit some brackets so Alan's huge sand tracks can slide in between the main subframe rails. And fitted an air tank between said rails. And it's getting a new 3" exhaust next Thursday. I have been busy.

Pass through complete! I'm very happy with the fit and finish. It's AAV's mould they use for their FGB71s, but worked perfectly on my FG84 too. Certainly glad I got them to do it rather than take that job on myself. This week should see a 3" exhaust go on. All the way through including a home converted exhaust brake from the wreckers and a 3" dump pipe from Beaudesert Exhaust.
