Nice looking truck. I'm a fan of GM's in general but really like the new ones. Also I'm with the comments here re GM's IFS. I get rock crawlers may need solid axle but the GM IFS has been used enough to be just fine for most uses.

And I'm with ya on the supply chain issues. And doesn't look like any end in sight sadly. Messed up situation.

Well I'm at 9 weeks (out of 12) before I get the topper. I ordered a Leer with Thule rails and cross bars, carpeted interior and full sliding side windows and a fold down front window. I will put a BedRug in it as well. I am going to put a "Safari Rack" on the topper however, I have not decided on a brand. I made one for my 2010 F150 and it was awesome. Any suggestions would be helpful! I am going to need a side mounted ladder to reach items that are up on the rack because this truck is quite a bit bigger then my F150. Any thoughts on where I can find a ladder? maybe I can have a Company make one for me or just make it myself. But that will have to wait until I get the topper. In the mean time I installed some running boards. Like I said this thing is quite a bit bigger then a F150 or any 1500 pickup. I like the look so let me know what you all think! I will attach a pic of the F150 too. Oh look at that sweet sticker on the topper!

Would the built in step in the side of the box not work for that purpose?

Or what about something like this:

It would work for things that are on the outer sides of the rack. But I am thinking that items that are in the center might be hard to reach. Maybe I am over thinking it. lol I will just have to wait until I get the topper. Something like this....

Well it is November 1st 2021 and I am getting closer to getting my topper. I started this build on 9/29/21. I does not seem like 4 weeks went by so far. Only 8 more weeks to go, woop woop! I did get my bed built, but not much else going on with the build until the topper is installed. But I do have quite a list of goodies that I am slowly procuring though!

Buddy is modding a 2022 3500HD and needs to calibrate his speedo for taller tires. Have you found a device that works with the 2022's? thanks.

I had the tires and wheels installed at Bell Tire a National tire chain. They did not say anything about needing to recalibrate my speedo. The only thing they had to do was calibrate the new Tire Pressure Sensors... Have him call a reputable tire store they should know. Sorry that's all I got.

Well I can't believe it, my topper came it on Monday whoop whoop! I had them install some Thule bars and I am going to fab a Roof Rack similar to a Prinsu. This will be my 2nd one so it should be a piece of cake, Now the fun begins!!! I will post some pics of the bed and other things I have been working on. But for now this is all I have. have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

The truck looks good, and I like the simplicity of the build. The GM HD IFS is plenty stout when used within (or close to) its design intentions. Curious why you opted for the Thule crossbars when you want an expedition style platform rack, since most of those can be mounted directly to the Thule tracks with an appropriate foot kit. I know you say that you'll fab a Prinsu style rack, but it still seems like it could be designed to mount directly in the tracks and keep the overall height of the platform lower than if it clamps to the crossbars.

I am a bit concerned about the height of the cross bars and the height the platform will be. If you have a link or part numbers I would love to check them out! I have seen a basket mounted to the tracks with some simple 90 deg angle. I might look into that as well. Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

jbaucom you got me thinking and I have been researching the issue. I now know what I am going to do for mounting my "basket" to the topper. However if you have any info please do not hesitate to share.

#JC-00658 - Pioneer Cap/Topper Systems - All Tracks | (rhinorack.com)

Cap & Trailer Racks | Front Runner | Buy Now | Front Runner (frontrunneroutfitters.com)

Looking at those systems, it appears that using the feet to connect the platform directly to the tracks would save the height of your crossbars, versus mounting the platform on top of the crossbars. Fabricating a platform that could mount directly to the tracks could result in a rack that is even a bit lower than these factory built options.

Been doing some work and it's coming along good. Here are some pics of my sleeping setup.. I bought a tri fold 6" memory foam mattress and built a one sided sleeping platform with a single drawer. I still have to come up with a shelve or something on the pass side. There is a side storage space just to the left of the drawer This can be for my shoes or boots.
