This custom build from OEV became the “Base Camp” series that they now offer in both hard and soft wall versions. The design goal was to utilize 37’s on 17” wheels that would provide the needed weight rating and sidewall flex to comfortably cruise off-road for extended distances. The Ram 3500 long bed chassis with 50 gallons of fuel and most available options serves as a great platform for this goal and is well suited for the Baja and Idaho mountain trips that it was built for. It provides truly luxurious camping complete with 12v A/C, interior water tanks, a massive lithium battery bank, enclosed shower/ bath, a large refrigerator, and generous sleeping areas for 5 all in a vehicle that can actually fit down the trails and roads that we all so passionately pursue.

Location: Floats between Ketchum, ID & San Diego, CA Will be prerunning the Baja 1000 course mid November, will be in the Borrego, CA area for Thanksgiving.

How does this truck handle offroad? Is there much sway back and forth?
Also, what's the total height with the 37" tires?

It’s a tall 12,000 lb vehicle when loaded so there will always be sway at low speeds over rocks / ditches, but the cabins weight is mostly quite low and we have spend many hours at decent speeds off road and the truck just cruises. Very happy with it.

Do you know the total weight of the truck & camper?
I don’t know exact weight but target design weight was 11,600. I assume we are closer to 11,800 because of the rear hydraulic rack and the heavy Toyo’s. Mid 12’s fully loaded with 4 people.

Hello - I'm interested.

Hate to ask, but what is the average MPG, and why are you selling ?

Beautiful rig

Webasto Diesel Air / Water heater

Cruise N Comfort CNCUSAHD12L Split System 12V Air Conditioning - 7000 BTU

Current production Base Camp ties into the truck power plant heating and cooling the camper. Is your system completely stand-alone, with no tie-in?

-Carli tuned King shocks

-Custom Deaver spring pack

Anything else done with the suspension? Drivetrain?

Rear Hydraulic Motorcycle / Cargo carrier

Weight capacity of the lift?

Ha! No worries. 8-10 Loaded and 80mph. Better if you have more patience for slower speeds, or don’t travel with 4 poeple and motos on the back/ trailering. As mentioned we love the rig and used it often. Recently bought boat and a daughter who is now road / desert racing mean priorities and available time have changed.

The diesel / air heater is stand alone in the cabin but draws from the chassis fuel tank.

The A/C is a stand alone 12V system that runs off the large lithium bank and as such can be run for hours independently of the truck being on. Not sure running the Diesel engine to cool the cabin is the best way to go, but not sure I understand the “truck power plant”

Nothing else needed. Cruises very comfortably off road (especially washboard) at surprising speeds.

500lbs

Do you have any idea of the floor space in the shower?

See attached floor plan. The shower pan is just outside the enclosed toilet and Poptop Overland in San Diego crafted a bi fold door that surrounds the pan for quick / easy showers. OEV also has a curtain system that attaches to the roof and sets inside the shower pan for a more waterproof experience. I always just used the hard doors. The shower pan is maybe 28-30” square.

TIA,

Bill

Does Popup-Overland have the capability to replace the folding shelf in the rear with a cabinet?

Does this camper have a lift-up queen bed with storage beneath?

Thanks,

Bill

Poptop would coordinate with OEV to replace the bunk bed with cabinetry (a great idea).
It does not have the under queen storage but would be an easy addition that Poptop could handle as well.

Thanks, Shane.

The additional storage would be nice for my hoped for long range multi-month travels. It could be like a mini OEV Summit.
