MontyPower - DC Power Inc. has some monster alternators if your ever needing an upgrade. Quick search shows they have alteast 370 Amps

Looking forward to the rest of the build! The superduty gasser platform is really a solid starting platform. I also agree with you, small lift big tires! You can quickly make a VERY capable offroad rig.

Thanks for sharing information! Will keep the contact info should more power be needed. So far... 240 amps seems to be more than enough. We are running a 50amp DC to DC charger off the truck alternator to charge the camper. It rocks! Easily pulls 50 amps at idle. Great for getting the batteries filled up fairly quickly.

Really enjoying the platform... coming from the Toyota world it's fun to have an overkill beefy rig (axles, frame, suspension). Motor and drivetrain seem to be excellent so far. Plenty of power with the camper and 37s with the 4.30 gears.

One of the “MUST HAVE” options on any current generation Ford F250 / F350 is the Auxiliary Switch Panel. This is a rather inexpensive option when ordering your truck (less than $200). The switches are located in the interior headliner area near the front windshield. It allows for you to easily install accessories and wire them to look factory clean! This video information will apply to the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 Ford F250 F350 trucks. Hope this helps inspire you to get some accessories wired up!

We decided to get the truck dirty and test the suspension and locking differentials. There was a steel hill climb with loose rock that was perfect for testing the front locker. Unfortunately, Ford has not changed the traction control system from the 2019 trucks.

The 2020 trucks saw the addition of “drive modes” including dirt/snow/slippery unfortunately the traction control system is completely disabled in “low range”. This is disappointing. Thankfully this truck has the factory rear e-locker (fully locking differential) and OX front air locker for full traction.

The other interesting thing is the transmission programming. While in “low range” the transmission is locked to only shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. Guessing it is to limit speed while in low range… probably for idiots to not forget the truck in low range. Not a fan of all the electronic limiters.

Are you referring to leaving it in drive or putting it in manual mode?

It wouldn't shift past 2nd in Drive or manual mode. Revved to 3k rpm.

The real unfortunate thing is how the electronics disable traction control. What is the advantage of drive modes?? Silly deal. Not really an issue with F/R lockers but still...

We decided to test out the recently released Yokohama Gelander X-AT tires.

37x12.5R17 – Load D – 3,525 Capacity – 3 Ply Sidewalls

Spec measurement is 36.8” unmounted. They measure at 36” installed on the truck.

We wanted a tire that would perform well off road without sacrificing the on road comfort. Realistically, the majority of miles will be on pavement (which is true for essentially every vehicle) so road manners matter.

We found them to be just slightly noisier than the BFG Ko2 tires which are near silent. Light tire noise can be heard at certain speeds but nearly unnoticeable otherwise. Keep in mind tire noise does increase with age/wear so we will update you as time goes on.

They track extremely well on road. No drifting or pulling. Tire wear has been minimal and extremely even on all 4 tires. Many of these miles have been pulling our trailer or hauling the camper.

Off road they seem to be predictable and have had good traction in the gravel, sand and rocks. We will be doing additional testing in the snow and trails in the future. They can get a bit floaty on gravel at highway pressure and comfort is drastically increased at lower tire pressures.

So far, no complaints. Quality tire. Worth considering if you want aggressive tread with good road performance and 45k mile tread warranty.

Can a 2020 Ford Super Duty rock crawl??

We decided to try it out on a Jeep Trail in Sedona, Arizona called Broken Arrow! The local "Pink Jeep" tours give rides up the trail to enjoy the rocks and scenery.

This is the perfect trail to test the locking differentials, suspension and see what the truck is capable of. I've driven off road trails for nearly 20 years. But never in a Full Size truck. So this was a very different experience...

Would you attempt this trail?

It is amusing to see that heavy full size driving around there.
What running boards are those that they are tucked up so high compared to OEM?
Also, how solid are your quads from stepping up into that beast all the time?

It was surprisingly good... Will be fun to tackle more challenges. Has me thinking about 40s too. :)

They are true rock sliders built custom by my buddy One 7 Fabrication. Steel welded to the frame. Top is plated for side protection. Camper tie down welded on the top. It's a low step in height compared to my old 98 Tacoma! Getting in requires stepping up on the slider... and sit down into the truck. It's better for the seats to sit into them rather than sliding anyhow.

Really enjoying this truck. Coming from Toyota world... Super Duty is the best build of the HD trucks. Really like the high pinion Dana 60 front axle with manual hubs (and vacuum actuators if too lazy to get out).
