Hello all, My name is Ed, Ive recently after many years in a large 2001 lance 1121, downsized to a 2013 Palomino B1500. Although its nicer newer and better on my gas mileage, I am really only finding one problem. I am 5'6', and I dont need the camper popped all the way up. a good 3 inches from being closed is perfect forme to walk around and cook. Its just a pain in the butt to have to get out and tuck the vinyl, and lock it all up/and vice versa after each use. Would anyone have any experience with creating a small sheet of braced aluminum to fit in the perimiter of the roof and walls to created a fixed camper? I have a general idea of lengthening the security latch lock screws and adding a 3 inch sheet of braced aluminum all the way around and use the extended locking clips and bolts through, to keep it secured. Sounds far fetched to many but Im positive it could safely work. The back door is a split 2 piece and I figure I can either put some new vinyl there or completely seal it all the way around. Any positive feedback is appreciated. -CS_Ed

good looking rig, but there should not really be a pain to tuck. close the door out the fan on there suction will be enough to pull the tent in as long as you go at a moderate pace. then make a safety check and latch it down. works on my northstar. there is a YouTube video from northstar on the technique

Thanks, Im really diggin the camper as is so far. I actually did try that fan tip, but the fan is at the front over the mattress, and when it gets low it stops sucking and also I cant reach it to shut it off. I wish I had a fan over the shower instead of a sky light haha. The other idea Id like to do is the window across from the sink is a solid payne and i was looking around for a sliding one to replace it with. Get more airflow.

any chance of cutting a new exhaust fan to the back or replace the skylight. it makes the closing so much easier

I have the newer version of yours. It's called an SS 1500. Palomino redesigned the back end. It has a one piece entry door now and the back wall is solid plus the manual crank up roof lift is gone. Now, it's electric push button. I suggest installing a second Fantastic Fan toward the rear of the camper. I use mine to suck the tent right in, no muss, no fuss. The new version had a higher roof clearance open and closed so I can use both fans to suck in the tent.

I shied away from the earlier ones because the fold up back wall is prone to leaking and the door is a royal PITA.

If I were you, I'd invest in some real tie down's as well. Tork Lift or Happijac's and, the camper appears to be sitting unlevel in your bed, what is up with that?

Correct tiedowns are on order. not sure why it sits uneven, Theres nothing under the camper or on the bed itself. But it doesnt shift or slide around at all with the tiedowns I have currently. Ive had a few different slide on's in the past, this is the first pop up thats not over 11'6. I bought this for half of the asking price/current bluebook value, cash. I didnt want anymore bills. I looked at the newer ones I just didnt want another almost $20k note over my head. Trucks almost paid off. So Im just really trying to keep it on the cheap. I looked into a new fan to install toward the back, but then It reduces the amount of solar panels I can use.

Im more than likely going to replace the bathroom akylight with a fan. And maybe replace the AC with a swamp cooler.

I looked underneath to see why its uneven, the previous owner installed one inch pieces of composite plastic wood like strips. I asked what they were for he said it was because the overhang was almost sitting ontop of his truck cab, said it was a half inch away from hitting and with the wind he didn't want to chance it. For my truck it sits pretty high above it so those strips are coming off, hopefully then it will sit right.
