I am selling my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed, quad cab, 4x4 that I bought new in May 2001.
This is the desirable High Output Cummins, with 6 Speed manual transmission, and 4 wheel disc brakes. The only engine modification has been to replace the failure prone factory lift pump with a Glacier Diesel pump when the rig had about 40k miles. Otherwise unmolested.
I recently, (within the past 1000 miles or so), replaced the wheel bearings, ball joints, upgraded the tie rod to a Synergy system, installed new Bilstein shocks, and front brakes. Also, this year, I installed a new tires and a new stereo and door speakers.
The interior is excellent, the exterior is very good and overall this is a great truck. Everything works and there are no issues, and it needs nothing. I had not intended to sell it until last week.
It has TorkLift camper tie downs, a Warn winch power cable to the rear bumper, LineX bed, and a color matched fiberglass shell.

Why am I selling? I have decided to buy a new Jeep Gladiator and no longer have a need or desire for a full size pickup. I have treasured this truck since new, it has been regularly maintained and needs nothing.

Nice looking truck.

I'm in the market, but am concerned about payload and towing with the 2500.

What is the GVWR? Was it increased from 8800 lbs with the camper special package?

Curb weight and payload?

Front and rear axle GAWR? 4850 and 6040?

GCWR? 18k?

The window sticker reads that with the 3.54 axle ratio; the rated loads are 2010 lbs payload, 8800 GVWR, 13050 lbs towing, and combined GCWR 20,000.
I hauled a Northern-lite 10-2000 camper with it while flat towing our CJ7, and it sat level and handled well.

Let me think about it and do some research. I am looking for a truck that will be able to pull a 5th wheel and I'm concerned about payload/pin weight.

Underside/undercarriage clean? Rust?

Thanks.

Clean with light surface rust here and there. No body rust. It will happily pull a fifth wheel!

If I remember correctly, the HO 2500 was the SRW 3500 equivalent because the only 3500 they made in this era was a dually. These trucks are sort of unicorns. I've spent a good bit of time in one and it pulled a trailer with my old troopy through atlanta traffic like it was hauling a load of feathers in the bed. I could barely tell it was there. If I were in the market for a full size, this would be very high on my list, if not on the top

I'm going from memory on this and almost 20 years ago so don't hold me to this but if I remember correctly the HO indicated a higher output Cummins. if I recall back in those years the HO cummins required the 6 speed manual transmission. The HO/6 speed combo then upped by default the rear axle to a Dana 70 but to be accurate I'm pretty sure any 2nd gen diesel/standard got the Dana 70. Only dually's had the Dana 80. What upgraded the rear suspension similar to the 3500 drw was the optional "camper special package". That added rear overload springs and rear sway bar.

Drew and Halligan, thanks for your input. You are both right, these trucks are sort of unicorns and the 4wheel disc version more so. The HO was indeed only available with the 6 speed and the engine is rated 245 HP @ 2700/505 ft-lb @ 1600. The standard engine was 235 hp/460 ft-lb.

Your correct on the rear disc brakes. only later 2001 model year had the rear disc. For some reason the '01 was a long model year. I purchased new a 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 quad cab 5.9 Magnum/gas in April of 2000. The truck was already on the lot when I bought it so it could have been built prior to April. My truck had rear drum brakes. A guy I knew purchased a later '01 2500 and he had the disc rears.

I have updated the ad to include more pictures, pictures of the undercarriage, and pictures of the Dana 80 rear axle. I have also upped the price on my CL add to $18.5 OBO. Thanks for looking!
