1997 Isuzu trooper new motor and tranny repost asking $6000 Albuquerque SOLD

I am reposting this after installing all the gear in my old listing and having just finished a 4500 mile trip down to baja for 6 weeks. Just changed the oil full synthetic as always.


I’m selling my 1997 Isuzu Trooper. This is a Japanese made serious high end suv of its time. I am the second owner and have every receipt for maintenance including the window sticker from new. It has been garage kept most of its life and there is no paint peel or rust anywhere. It’s does have some light scratches here and there and a small dent in the driver rear. Total mileage is 237,00 but it has a new motor at 170,00 and a new transmission at 160,00. I recently drove it 4,500 miles to Mexico for a 6 week trip and it performed flawlessly. Only selling because I ordered a new Tacoma. I will list the recent upgrades below. Makes a great overland platform since the entire back is flat and can easily sleep 2 people. Plus there is an integrated rack that you could put solar on and run a fridge. Also factory receiver hitch and trailer brake setup. I didn’t build it to off road with but to handle dirt roads and be able to be reliable while still having good highway capabilities.

New in last 6 months spent over $3000 getting it ready for our trip and just updating it.

-Old Man Emu heavy duty shocks and rear 1” lift coils
-CV axles
-5 cooper discovery tires roughly 31.5 inches and full size spare
-all new heavy duty ball joints, tie rods, and torsion bars.
-warn locking hubs (provides less wear on the drive train)
-ceramic window tint that provides superior heat deflection
-custom roof rack mounted on factory holes, capable of adding anything including (solar, roof tent, ski gear, roof box)

No cost has ever been spared with this vehicle and it has a ton of interior space. Much more headroom than a jeep or 4 runner while still easily fitting in our garage. I was able to get on average 18 mpg on our travels through Mexico. There are no problems with it and it cleans up like new. I have the back seats out currently and a platform I made to fill in the seat gap, which just requires 6 bolts total and they are easy to move and store. They also flip up and down.

It has 4 wheel low and 4 wheel high

I’m going to take some more photos of the back area also to show the platform and condition. All carpet and roof lining, seats are in great shape.

Some more pictures with the seats out and the interior. I always keep a carpet in the back to help protect it so it’s in really good shape. Able to sleep in there and I am 6ft 1” plus you can move the front seats forward for more room.

I've owned quite a few of these and even today after selling my last one I still miss Troopers. They are incredibly roomy inside, one of the most capable 4x4s in stock or mildy upfitted forms, and can be very dependable as long as the maintenance is up to date. The motor is very robust, the running gear is overbuilt, it can easily fit 285/70r16s or 33x10.5x15s, has a 4-link coil back end, powerful 4-wheel disc brakes, etc. Too many good points to list. Within this generation of SUVs, I'd choose a Trooper over a 4runner, Pathfinder, Montero, with only an 80s series Landcruiser coming out ahead.

As with any older platforms, there are some durability points that have been well documented by now (oil consumption and auto trans) but there are some low cost mitigations strategies to prevent breakdowns.

Last, parts support for Troopers is dwindling in North America, but Rock Auto is a good place to start. For forums, Planetisuzoo is where one would get any info regarding Troopers.
