Kermit’s Story
Kermit was originally manufactured in Germany and sold to its first owner in California. He has never seen winter or salt. We are selling him to move to Europe to be with a family member with a severe illness.
12,000 miles ago at the start of our trip we put lots of work into him and used the Covid lockdown in Mexico 4,000 miles ago for final tune-ups, so that now he runs like a champ despite his age.
We bought this van to travel through Central America and later Mexico for 15 months. Made some significant upgrades to live and travel comfortably. Installed a solar system, 50-quart ARB fridge/freezer, 4 USB Plugs, two 110V plugs and a customized storage unit. We also reinforced the pop top with fiberglass layers and installed GoWesty struts to take the load of the roof-top carrier.

Kermit’s quirks
-Fuel gauge doesn’t function. We managed easily with trip odometer.
-Original temperature gauge doesn’t function. We installed an external gauge which shows the temperature when the engine is off.
-Refueling at the gas station nozzle needs to be on half flow rate
-Idles raving from 900 to 1500rpm after strenuous mountain rides or at very high altitudes
-You can hear a ball bearing in the transmission when in neutral
-Consumes 1 qt. of oil every 1000-2000miles (depending on oil viscosity)
-1 missing hub cap
